It can't be that much surely? It's 15 mill less than Kane was sold for with a year on his contract.

All seems very odd. Van Hecke is a good replacement for Romero but for that money you'd just keep Romero for a year and take Van Hecke for free next year. We literally hold all the cards - not to mention Danso and Vuscovic so we could even sell Romero and still wait the year.

Can't quite work out what the play is here?
Thats assuming Liverpool or Chelsea don't persuade him and he decides to go there... If thats the case and he has a good season then it will be classed asa a fuck up

i reckon we are only getting him because de zerbi wants him and after him saving us i reckon there is leeway for what he wants. I reckon it will 45 with hefty add ons myself or closer to 50

45 is probably fair enough to give RDZ what he wants but it's still pushing it unless we think we're getting 70 for Romero. If Van Hecke wants to get to Spurs he can come for free and a huge sign on fee next year.

Dont get me wrong - have no problem with the signing. Just can't get my head around the business side of it.

United want to buy Romero.

But Spurs fans think he is a waste of time and overrated.

He's not a waste of time or overrated but he's constantly let the club and team down and is not the leader we require.

Sometimes selling a good talent is a good thing to do when you consider all circumstances surrounding them. He doesn't give a toss about the club. Sell and be glad of it.

DeZerbi wants him now? Maybe that's the play, it's simply a manager wanting a player who he knows and feels can improve our team immediately. DeZerbi isnt here to mess around, he will want us fighting for the CL places next season.

Also Romero might have told the club he wants to leave and if it's true he has a release clause in his contract then it's unlikely the club can make him stay unless we want to do a Maranakis

Good points.

This is probably why, had the DL/JL still been in charge, this would have dragged on all summer. Similarly, there is no way on God’s earth they sanction £50m on a player with one year left.

The Lewis 2.0 regime are making a point of getting deals done quickly for players that have been clearly identified. Which I guess means we overpay at times.

The point is - there is probably some value in overpaying for your first choice if it saves haggling all summer only to then lose out and have to overpay for the 3rd choice anyway on deadline day!!

And if the data / analysis that lead to Savio being our number one pick for two summers in a row is correct, and he fulfils the potential they are gambling on, £60m could turn out a great piece of business.

Yea, it absolutely could.

Though as many here I am honestly worried about signing players that we were linked with way before RDZ came aboard.

That makes me question - is Savinho that real no 1 target to overpay for? Or is that a club signing identified year ago?

If we get him I do hope he sets the world on fire. Just that I have so many questionmarks regarding him.

There is no one who wants RDZ backed more than me but paying 70 million for Van Hecke with one year on his contract when we sold Kane for 86 million in similar circumstances is just crazy.

Obviously the prices quoted could be complete bollocks 🤷‍♂️

Not a bad review of our options/interests and new signings. I'm fine with Cuti leaving if we get Hecke.

And Bahoya looks decent. If we were to get Savinho and him, we'd have a significant upgrade on our attack (Kudus is also reported to be back for next season).

I saw that Kulu is starting to move freely, playing basketball!

Imagine starting the season with Kudus,Kulu, Sav, Tel and Bahoya!

It's all starting to look a LOT more rosy than it did a month ago...

End of the day, they must be pretty sure because that’s 2 summers and hefty investment. His wages must be close to 200k pw as well. I doubt he will want to be on less than his mate Xavi

"Sávio, who is 21 years old, Salary of £4,160,000 for the 2025-2026 Season, or £80,000 per week, excluding bonuses. ."

I'm gonna choose to be excited about Savinho and tell myself he'll be a different player under De Zerbi, will live up to the raw data (top 10 winger in Europe) and we've pulled off an absolute masterstroke of a signing.

Then after 20 games when he shows the exact weaknesses we saw at City I'll slag off Lange and call him a fraudulent wankstain for overpaying for yet another hyped up kid that we'd seen flop at City.

:vinai:

Also Savinho is 22.....what were the likes of Semenyo and Mbeumo doing at the same age.
Statistically, wingers peak earlier than other players at 26.1. Soccer players on average peak at 27.

It doesn’t matter if Savinho becomes as good as Semenyo when he’s 27. We’re not paying for a fully mature Savinho who might be as good as Semenyo .
We’re paying for a 22 year old version.
Players like Savinho or Gray might be gone by the time they realize their full potential. We might be able to get him (them?) to extend down the road if he shows that kind of promise or we might not.

In that 45m scenario, I wouldn't care so long as we break even vs Romero's fee.

Unless indeed Utd genuinely are interested; in which case bleed them fkn dry.
