If they want him they will get him. Unless he only wants to come to us. He and we hold all the cards as things stand. If he wants to go to Liverpool he'll go there either way
the implication is he only wants to come to us this summer, if we dont finish the deal he has other options. Its a big ask for him to stay for a season with risk of injury and loss of form stoping a step up.

How accurate is Football365 generally?
AFAIK they're basically just an aggregator/rumour mill and repurpose any random links, articles and tweets to generate clicks, rather than having their own sources.

So they're basically only as good as their source, which in this case is 'a stunning report out of spain'...whatever that means.

Unless they're quoting a proper established source it's basically just sub-tabloid garbage.

45 is probably fair enough to give RDZ what he wants but it's still pushing it unless we think we're getting 70 for Romero. If Van Hecke wants to get to Spurs he can come for free and a huge sign on fee next year.

Dont get me wrong - have no problem with the signing. Just can't get my head around the business side of it.
This will probably age poorly, but I think we're just gonna spend pretty big this summer and back De Zerbi. His number 1 target appears to be Van Hecke and it seems we're backing him by overpaying a bit to get him. Matt Law says the owners are injecting more money into the club and all the talk in Jan was that we were holding fire so we could spend bigger in the summer. It, quite literally, won't be business as usual a la Levy. The new owners have backed themselves into a corner by promising investment and now they need to put their money where their mouth is.

Waiting a year to sign Van Hecke opens up a big element of risk and other potential issues: we're not backing the manager (we know how that usually ends), we risk losing Van Hecke if the situation changes or he gets a better offer, we're forced to compromise at RCB for an entire year against the manager's will.

As for Romero - no chance is hell we get 70m. If anything I think we'll sell him for less than we're rumoured to be paying for Van Hecke. Clubs will know we want rid and, given his high wages and poor rep in the PL, there are probably only about 5-6 clubs that can realistically afford him. I'd guess a loan with an obligation to Atleti or an Italian club for around 40-50m? Something along those lines.

Gakpo v marmoush?

Id rather the latter BUT they are probably similar in stats overall.
I think both have their issues tbh.

Gakpo would cost a lot of money and irritate the shit out of everyone once the hype wore off. He gets some goals but he's a predictable cut-in merchant and is the main scape-goat in the Liverpool fan-base atm. He'd be an upgrade on our current options but we'd be paying premium for a 27 year old that we'd probably want to replace within 2 years anyway. Just don't think he's worth it tbh.

Marmoush is, imo, the better player and would be an exciting signing, but I don't really know where we fit him in. His insane run of like 15 goals in 18 games at Frankfurt which led to City buying him was when he was playing in a front 2 and I think he's struggled to match that form being used out wide or as a conventional number 9 at City. Unless we built around him I think he'd be an awkward player to slot into the team.
