Some clubs PULLED OUT of a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke due to #thfc’s interest and the player’s focus on only joining Spurs.“ He is almost like De Zerbi’s son, he’s so enthralled by De Zerbi. “Some of the clubs who are interested in him have just backed away, they feel it’s not worth trying to get him whilst De Zerbi is trying to get him.”

Rumours is it’s Chelsea and Liverpool. Shows what having a top manager in this case who has already worked with him does. Brighton tried to start a bidding war and it failed cos the player only wants us.

Is Van Hecke better than Romero? I've not watched enough Brighton to judge.
He made three or four big mistakes in the last few weeks of the season that resulted in goals which Romero would have been crucified far.

Always thought Van Hecke was decent but not great, might go up a level with a move but the valuation with one year left is wild. Hes a good player and will be a good signing but footballing wise Romero is better. The fans have turned on Romero so it’s probably the right thing to do anyway.

Just looking at Gakpos numbers...

22/23. 21 apps. 7 goals 3 assists
23/24 35 apps 8 goals 5 assists
24/25 35 apps 10 goals 5 assists
25/26 36 apps 7 goals, 5 assists

Thats pretty consistent tbf, rarely injured too. These are just PL stats and mainly from the left forward position.

It’s shouldn’t be considered in terms of the valuation of a player with a year left. we will be paying what we value him at in terms of helping RDZ implement his system.

Numbers aren't everything. Johnson's numbers were decent in the 3 seasons prior to him being sold (2 at Spurs, 1 at Forest) but most fans were begging to get rid.

I suppose at some point we do need to just add some more reliable sources of goals to the team, though. And Gakpo is better than Johnson.

Would still only buy if it's a good deal. Not someone we should break the bank for.

True, if he turns out to be a great centre half for us it will look cheap I guess. would just like us to be a bit smarter with the funds available. Still alot of work to be done in midfield and up front. if we’re blowing 400m and sales on top, fair enough.

I agree. We need a reliable source of goals and the market for that in terms of PL proven is rather tiny.

Not particularly exciting at all but we need somebody more established and proven.

Hes definitely better at playing out from the back, de Zerbi style

Not so sure about this. Romero is one of the best passers from CB in the world and would have been perfect for RDZ’s style.

Van Hecke’s stats in this regard are better but a lot has to do with Romero playing under a terrorball merchant who negated the midfield entirely.

Van Hecke also has mistakes in him - I think he made more critical errors last season than Romero has is his entire premier league career…but again, that may be due to the high-risk-high-reward system that Brighton play.

For me it’s just frustrating if we are binning Romero off now…he’s my favourite Spurs player. But if it’s RDZ / Romero’s choice - I can’t argue with that too much.

It would hurt to see him at Utd though.

Anyone wanting Gakpo needs to talk to a pool fan, every single pool fan I know hates him.

Have a quick scan of this and you'll get an idea what they think of him

Pool fans are always crying.

I read that first page and they shit on the same players that were very very good for them in previous seasons. Suddenly after a poor season of not getting what they want they decide gravenberch is turd when a couple of seasons ago he was the best player in the world!

Anyway. Gakpo is not a world class player by any means but not exactly a hugely exciting one either. He does do some good work....

Consistently underwhelming

If we’re signing a senior, established LWF, they need to replace Son’s numbers.

He's 29, so even without a fee it'll be a big wage deal - last big chance for a massive contract in his career

Then, in a year, when we decide we don't want him - it'll cost us money to get rid because no one will match his wages for a 30 year old bang average player

So yeah, not "a buy" - but can still be costly
Dude, it's Harry Wilson, not Harry Kane
His "big wage deal" will probably be £70k a week.
