I'd rather see a 6.5/10 38 times a season than an 8/10 15 times a season.
It's that simple.
Yeah we need to stop acting like Romero actually plays at a high level or is available most weeks. Even if he were to reel in the aggression under De Zerbi we're at the point where he's probably guaranteed 1-2 reds a season purely off ref bias. Not to mention the injuries. And even when he's fit he's pretty crap about 25% of the time and still liable to a lapse in concentration even when he's playing well.

Very good CB at his best, but that's usually only about 40% of the available fixtures per season.

Not so sure about this. Romero is one of the best passers from CB in the world and would have been perfect for RDZ’s style.

Van Hecke’s stats in this regard are better but a lot has to do with Romero playing under a terrorball merchant who negated the midfield entirely.
No hes not. Is easy to blame it on the system.. how was his stats under Postecoglu?

Romero is a undisciplined loose cannon with pretty lousy defending abilities, a ballwatcher who almost never covers attacking players that the attacker with the ball is looking for. I really hope he will get sold.

Anyone saying Romero is a liabiity / average defender / not committed / reckless etc. should be praying for him to got to a PL riavl as surely whe will weaken them. Right?
For the 60% of games he's available for hes as likely to put in a 5/10 performance as a 9/10 one. That's ultimately the issue, not available often enough and when he is available to play you don't know what you're going to get. A world class player on his day but given his availability and inconsistency we only see him being world class maybe 10-12 times a season. That sort of hit rate ain't worth it

And even if he goes on to be fantastic elsewhere it is still worth moving on from him because there is clearly something that makes it not work here for him. So it is better for both parties to go their separate ways.

Van Hecke also has mistakes in him - I think he made more critical errors last season than Romero has is his entire premier league career…but again, that may be due to the high-risk-high-reward system that Brighton play.

For me it’s just frustrating if we are binning Romero off now…he’s my favourite Spurs player. But if it’s RDZ / Romero’s choice - I can’t argue with that too much.

It would hurt to see him at Utd though.
Romero doesn’t want to be here. It’s clear as day. Let him go.

I’d sooner have van Hecke who clearly wants to be here and has the manager’s confidence

Don't think we can necessary be picky here. Not sure there are more han 5 clubs around who could pay what he is worth and that are interesting for him and I wouldn't be too sure the spanish teams are ready to pay a fair transfer fee.

We sold Modric to Madrid for cheap when Chelsea were offering much more, we can do something similar for Romero.

The way I see it is his stock will almost certainly fly up after the WC and teams will be looking at him, might have to do a loan with obligation option or something if they can't afford to pay this year, almost certainly though Atletico will have money to burn especially since they will probably sell Alvarez.

We just need to be patient and smart.
