At Leicester he often plays as a false winger drifting from wide channels centrally, similar to how Foden or David Silva operate, in between the lines and between wide and central.

433 he either plays as the most advanced midfielder or as a false winger which is how he was used in Leicester. I would be tempted to say long term Kulusevski is the player most at risk from Maddison.
Exactly what I was thinking.

Flip side is we play Maddison RW and Kulusevski goes to his more natural LW.

But it almost makes sense to invert both of them if Postecoglou wants then to play in half spaces between the lines.

Maddison is a fantastic player. Basically double figures for g/a for multiple seasons. He offers a threat in & outside the box, can create, fixes a set piece issue, deals with a HG issue ... so yeah, big wage & big fee expected.

Underrated on here as he doesn't have a foreign name and is a bit of a dick.

Yeh much as I like Kulusevski despite his poor form last season in terms of creativity Maddison is closer to Foden’s level and above anyone bar Kane.

We have needed someone like this for a while. If Kane was to leave Maddison can pick up the creative role he is good enough, still would leave the goal scoring. Just have to hope no injuries with him.

Still think you would need a workhorse/link player like Skipp in the middle 3 to do the water carry job instead of Kulusevski. Also as Ange apparently likes attacking full backs that means a little bit extra in the middle I would imagine. For the first game I would suspect Davies willl get the LB role for the first games as Udogie would be a big risk early on.

Vicario
Porro Romero LCB Davies/Udogie
Skipp Bissouma Maddison
Kulusevski Kane Son

If one is picking Skipp the surely he's the one to sit deepest in the center?

Thoughts on the concerns of his off the ball movement and physicality?

Not bothered at all. Leicester played high-press/possession football with Maddison at the centre. We've got work horse/physical midfielders to cover for that. He's got guile, his work-rate is underrated & he's made his name in the Championship & then for Leicester. Physicality isn't an issue.

Leicester at their best (challenging for top 4) had him AND Tielemans in midfield. We've got Bentancur and Bissouma.

That’s reassuring.
Doc noted that his physicality has declined in recent seasons and hip injuries may be the underlying issue, hence my concern.

Maddison (right now) is a much better footballer than Kulu.

He actually shoots, for one.

Not by me he's not.

£40M is about right for a player of his quality, with a year left on his contract.

I'd be very happy if this goes through. I don't necessarily think he's the dick he's made out to be. He said some nasty stuff about Kane a decade ago. A lot can change in a personality over that time.

Not that I care. I'm not really that interested in whether he's arrogant or not, I don't have to socialise with him.

But it appears that Kane bears no grudge, which would lead me to believe that Maddison has apologised at some stage. It's not really a stretch to conclude that he's done a bit of growing up.

So fingers crossed, as I think he'll make a big difference to how we perform.

Fitness record might be a problem in terms of availability but I don't notice him particularly struggling physically most games. He fell off at times (and most #10's tend to be a bit hit and miss) but Leicester were a disaster.

There will be games where a big, physical, active DM can smother him but that happens to Kane as well, it happens to everyone who isn't Messi. But he's capable of being a 10+ goals 10+ assists player in the league which takes a big share of the burden off Kane and Son.

Was Bale, not Kane

That's why we should be looking to bring both Tapsoba and van de Ven in....

By the end of this trf window will we be the:

Interested to see how Maddison fits into Postecoglou system.

I rate him but primarily in the no. 10. We are crying out for a lock picker and have been since Eriksen.

However, I don't see where he fits into Postecoglou's 433. He's not got the legs to plays as an 8.
His performances a very different playing for England and Leicester. Southgate shoves him out in a LW or RW position and he isn't as influential in the game compared to when he plays 10 for Leicester.

I don't know enough about Postecoglou, but is he willing to switch between a 433 to 4231?
He’s pretty fluid with formations and tends to use one that will suit the players he has, just so happened his Celtic squad were set up nicely for a 4-3-3

I think he’ll start with a 4-3-3 with us but change it along the line to a 4-2-3-1

He also played a back 3 with Australia
