We need to bring in young uns desperately as well as a few first teamers
Oh right build for the future aye. How many years have we been doing that whilst being promised jam tomorrow? 2 decades pretty much of N'Koodoo,'s, N'Jie's. Clarke's etc. We once had the best young prospect in Germany in Holtby and and how did he turn out? Sess was the best prospect in the C-Ship, Spence ditto, Yedlin was the fastest player on earth, Rodon blah blah, and the list just goes on...
Point is we have no defence worth talking of, no decent RB, we need top level CB's, we need a playmaker/AM, and we need another striker for when Harry says "fuck this bullshit I'm off".
I've had enough of Levy being conned by salesman agents about the next best thing in teenagers on the planet. They won't bring success to this club now. Wakey wakey.

Article in the Athletic confirming Chelsea need to sell in the summer for FFP reasons. I assume Boehly, unlike Abramovich, would do business with us.

So, who would you go for (realistically)? I'd like Levi Colwill for LCB (they already have Badashile, Koulibaly), but stay clear of 'established' players like Mount. We badly need CBs, and Colwill's one of the best young ones around (and homegrown). Tough deal, but worth a real go. Woolwich paid 50mil for White. How much for Colwill?

Would rip their hands off for Colwill.

Anything under 50m as that's the price quoted for Guehi and when I've watched him, he's been better than Guehi. Better with the ball for sure.

They won't sell him.

Normally I'd agree with Chelsea. And probably they'd like to loan him another year then take a view. But if they need to balance the books, and they get a good offer, there are scenarios where it may make sense for them. He's an academy player, so it's all profit in a position they have just spent heavily on (Badashile, Koulibaly and Cucurella can play there). If they wait another year there's the risk of injury or that he does a Sessegnon and doesn't develop as expected. I think 40-45 million could get them interested, although I think a lot depends what money they can get for other players they'd prefer to offload like Gallagher and Mount.

I wouldn’t assume that Chelsea have had a change of heart in that regard. They won’t like the idea of selling to us.

That said, players may dig their heels in to move to us, so as to stay in London.

I guarantee whatever forum you've hopped over from is full of you complaining how we missed out on promising young player X, complaining that the Chavs & City have all the quality kids in their youth ranks and getting all puffed up about us buying players like Sessengon, Aarons, Lamptey etc. etc. I suspect there would have been lots of Dortmund/Brighton/etc. envy too.

The post you used as a jump off for this rant didn't even suggest we should focus solely on young players anyway.

First and foremost they'll be looking to sell players on big wages that either have no future at the club or have already proven to be not up to the job.

Perfect example of fitting all three of those criteria is highlighted in your post above.

Because he's a prized asset, home grown, future England intl.

The same reason they didn't sell him to Brighton.
Colwell’s contract runs until 2025. Reports are that Chelsea are trying hard get Colwell to sign an extension. I’m guessing Chelsea will offer him a big raise and he’ll sign but if Colwell refuses, Boehley will have a decision to make.

But even then, he probably won’t come to us. He supposedly likes Brighton so if Chelsea sell, they will probably offer Brighton a lower transfer fee in exchange for a buy back clause (as they’ve done with Livramento and Tammy Abraham). I don’t think we’d be comfortable with Chelsea having a buy back for one of our players.

I wouldn’t help them out with their financial problems at all by buying players off them.

Big offer early in the window is our best chance, as apparently they need money in before end of June. Would they sell to us for 40 Mill, maybe not. 50? At some point all the finer points go out the window and money talks. If the number is 50, same as Woolwich paid for White, we should be interested.

To sign Ugarte, we need to move on Hoj which obviously I’m cool with. Would potentially sell Sarr

i don’t want success now, I want clever, structured planning under a good manager. We’ve had plenty of good players from the championship to counter your examples
