I do. They seem to be trying to make an example of him. 8 months because of betting on a game of football anytime he fancied is wrong. If it came out that he bet against Brentford then fair enough but I think that won’t be the case.
Jesus, it’s not like there aren’t a million other things you can bet on if you fancy doing so.
Toney probably bets on football because he thinks he’s better informed than the average punter. I don’t know what info the average footballer gets about player injuries etc but I’m guessing that there is sone information exchange which might give him an advantage.
I’m not one for slippery slopes in general but if I’m allowed to bet on your match and you’re allowed to bet on mine then it’s pretty easy to see where that can lead.
I’m all good with Toney’s ban.

A lot has to go right for a club that a lot hasn't gone right for.

Can Gil & Sarr make an impact? Will Skipp take a step forward? A healthy Bissouma and Bentancur makes an area of weakness suddenly average to above average.

Huge questions about how Udogie, Porror and Spence will contribute.

Richarlison??

Could be some nice pieces, but how a manager puts it together is going to be interesting.

So many questions and i didn't even dive into defense
It’s salvageable with several good decisions. Problem is we have made many more poor decisions than good decisions lately and there’s been nothing to suggest that will change.

Of course; the key reinforcements will be paramount......

.......Or a million other pass-times.

I'd suggest if you're a low level footballer relying on betting to subsidise your income (as previously mused by the lad above) then either extra training or looking for another job might be 2 somewhat practical alternatives......

Maybe an evening class in 'accountability for ones actions'? ....Or at the very least 'Don't get caught 101'.

i really hate when we lack dynamism, but still it’s not as bad as the 2003-04 squad.
No its not but that summer was a huge clear out and loads of players came in. I think this is a very similar situation with a new DoF and coach as well, hopefully without a 2023 version of Santini stuck in by Levy.

In that 12 month period from summer 2004 we bought Robinson, Dawson, Carrick, Huddlestone and Lennon as well as decent ish players like Jenas and Mendes. We need to be doing that again.

If we’d signed him from the Norwegian 2nd div that would have been some serious scouting.
Everyone knows this name now.

Would still take some balls to throw serious money at the deal but a fun idea.

With no DOF or manager in, there isn’t much chance we are really doing a deal yet though

But nonetheless looking at targets for the club which is what they are paid to do.

Scouts are doing their jobs...

Not sure the point you are making here.

Has somebody said scouts aren't scouting?

Somebody could say something like "a scout is only good if the system and role they are scouting for is 100% clear" . That would be a very reasonable thing to say and make sense for our current circumstance.

And on the other end, there were 18 players who made more than 15 appearances all comps for that 2003-04 team.

By the end of the summer 2005 transfer window, Robbie Keane and Ledley King were the only two remaining.

We aren't able to do successful business at that volume anymore. Other clubs can and do, Levy has lost the capacity for that kind of dealing.

Yes, look at how we can't even dump Rodon quickly.

speaking of Joe,

Speaking to Ouest-France, Stade Rennais Technical Director Florian Maurice has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur duo Djed Spence (22) and Joe Rodon (25) will both return to the London club upon the expiry of their loan deals in Ligue 1.

The dude will be 26 in the autumn. Another one that could be tough to shift, got dropped from the Rennes starting lineup like 6 months ago and never returned to the starting 11.
maybe a loan back to swansea:contefacepalm2:

As for spence well we'll see, he is younger. but can see him being sold to forrest in the summer should they survive. Unlike Rodon He can't even make the Rennes bench anymore let alone make a couple minute cameo

I wonder what our scouts saw in him. He's not even a shit player who happens to be good at one thing.

Martinez probably shouldn't have been playing during the world cup. Took pain-killing injections to play the first two games I think, then couldn't train much during the tournament until the last two games I think. But yeah, not a super clinical striker even when he is fit tbh, he.. but I think he's been harshly judged on a poor world cup, think he'd be a great signing for Chelsea.
What's a super clinical striker then, I wonder? His strike rate seems pretty impressive to me. He misses chances, yes, but all strikers do...heck, those who don't miss chances simply don't create any. And at the end of the day, he's a guaranteed 20+ a season...that's clinical enough to me 🙂

That World Cup was a joke. Argentina were bang average, lost to fucking Saudi Arabia in their opener then basically got guaranteed a Messi pen every game including in the final (never was a foul on that cheating cunt Di Maria). Other than that they created little and certainly didn't play to his strengths, knowing he was also injured. So yeah you're bang on the money when you say he's harshly judged.

Anyway, no chance he's coming to us now, but I hope he don't end up at Chelsea or United. Let him go to Bayern or Barca.

Us? We'll make do with a Che Adams or Patson Daka

We had a sizable ‘PlayRodon’ contingent here on the basis that he never made mistakes ( although, even in limited minutes, he did). Yeah, probably a loan or a Jack Clarke deal to a championship club.
As for Spence, I think he may well be caught in something of a political situation at Rennes where the manager won’t play loanees.

Their captain is also their RB. He was injured and that's when Spence played well.
Now he's back Spence is the loan guy who they could never afford to keep.

Rodon still has a chance to be a decent player IMO.
Moving to Spurs who then brought in Conte was a fucking terrible career choice. Jose loved him apparently but he could have been being facetious because he wanted Min Jae (if he really did).
Nah. If he was going to be decent he'd probably have managed to get more game time in Ligue 1 by now. Jose didn't love him, he he refused to play even when we had various injuries and people were fuming about not giving him a chance.

He's played a fair few games with Wales and so far hasn't shown anything to get excited about.

Actually he has played well for Wales, he’s an old fashioned type, plays well when team is under pressure but not great with the ball at his feet.
