According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pedro Porro is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Spanish international will join Tottenham permanently in a deal worth €45 million this summer. But the newly-crowned La Liga champions want to prise him away from the North London club.

Pedro Porro has been one of the best young full-backs in the world in the last few seasons. The 23-year-old rose to prominence at Girona FC before moving to Manchester City in August 2019. But he never established a foothold at Manchester City and instead spent three years on loan at Real Valladolid (2019/20) and Sporting CP (2020-2022).

Sporting signed him permanently last summer before Tottenham came calling in January 2023. And the Spaniard has managed three goals and three assists in 17 appearances. Meanwhile, Tottenham will sign Porro permanently in a deal worth €45 million this summer. But Barcelona will look to secure his services ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Barcelona will enter the market for a right-back this summer. And it is hardly surprising why they are desperate to land a top-class full-back for the right flank. They have failed to fill Dani Alves’s void since the Brazilian defender’s first stint at Camp Nou ended. Since then, Nelson Semedo, Sergi Roberto, and Sergino Dest have all tried and failed to fill his shoes.

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez utilised Jules Kounde, a centre-back, on the right flank for most of the 2022/23 season. While the Frenchman was a solid customer as a right-back, he wants to play as a central defender next term. So Barcelona will look to sign a right-back this summer, with Pedro Porro emerging as a target.

Apart from the Tottenham defender, Ivan Fresneda recently emerged as a target for Barcelona. But Porro might make an instant impact, considering he is more settled as a senior footballer. And the Blaugrana will soon launch the offensive to sign the 23-year-old.

It is unclear if Tottenham will be ready to part ways with Porro immediately after signing him for €45 million. But if a deal for the Spanish international does not materialise, Fresneda might accept a move to Barcelona in a heartbeat.
This wouldn't be bad, but unfortunately Barca don't have the money to sign him or the wages to offer him. That being said, Porro seems like a real leader and positive character, so even though there may not be a clear position for him in an Ange team as of yet, keeping him may actually be more to our benefit than selling him for a decent fee. He has skill and Ange may find a way to utilize that gets the most of his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses.

"not chaos" sounds good.

I've seen Lukeba a fair bit due to hype and I must admit, he is quite error prone and pretty turbulent as a young centre half. Think Davinson Sanchez but better technically.

But he's also 20 years old so to be expected. He's no where near as good as say Saliba was at the same age and definitely doesn't have a higher ceiling than Gvardiol. However I do think he's the sort of profile we should be looking at. Young, coachable, very high potential and in a position we ultimately need.

van de Ven however is someone I also really like and he's in the video below the Lukeba one. Reminds me very much of a young Vertonghen.

If we got Adarabiayo in as squad depth (To replace Sanchez) and then brought in someone like a Lukeba, van de Ven or Medina. We'd have improved our defence so much.

Defensive discipline is a lot easier to coach than offensive skills.

The great defenders are like great attacking players, they have instincts that are harder to coach but there is no reason Porro couldn't be coached into the positional discipline to be a passable RB, that is unbelievable going forward.

Just make sure you have the right. CBs and CMs to cover for him.

If I was an agent and wanted to stir up interest in a player to earn some money, I'd leak stories about interest and deals.

Likewise, if I had a relationship with a client that I didn't want to damage, I'd keep schtum.

Not sure how that would fit the Maddison story being leaked and Base also having a great relationship with Spurs...

I guess we don't really know how great that relationship really is.
Here's the thing, though: does leaking anything make any difference whatsoever? I mean, do clubs rely on Twitter and the Mail to know who is in for another player, or do they just get the scoop directly from the agents? I'm guessing it's the latter and that all the Twitter stuff has nothing to do with agents leaking, but is just made up stuff from tidbits journos get. whiff of.

Sounds familiar

Not really seen either Lukeba or Van De Ven before but if Liverpool are into Van de Ven, he's likely out of the picture already. Only chance would be to try and force the issue early whilst they are focused on CMs.

Bit of a shit situation to be shopping for a LCB in the same window as City AND Liverpool. Unless we are prepared tp go as hard after our top target (narrator: they weren't) we will get third choice at best.

Probably have to think outside the box.

We need a playmaker, leicester have gone down, probably not in a good financial situation and levy is smelling blood.
yep and I rate Maddison.

I just think this seems a case of history repeating itself with fuck all learned from previous mistakes. You bring a manager in then proceed to bring a player in who doesn't seem to fit the managers profile on what he needs in his midfielders.

Then if/when it's not working out we get eventual quotes from Ange half way through the season insinuating Maddison was a club signing.

Aren't the reports somewhat stating that Ange gave the greenlight for the signing? Meaning he was probably consulted over it and approved it?

I think Ange prides himself on being able to improve teams and footballers. You know, like a coach would. Whilst I don't think technically limited footballers like SIssoko would survive in an Ange team, I think players like Maddison would be welcomed by Ange. It's alot easier to get fit in your 20s than it is to become technically better.

I would prefer players like Eze and Scott over Maddison. Simply because I think Eze has a much higher ceiling than Maddison and is a lot more suited to what we would need in a 433 and Scott is young and mouldable in the same way. But if Maddison does arrive, I think he'd flourish under Ange as long as he keeps fit. He's a decent player.

Personally, I don't really get the Harvey Barnes links outside of him being HG.
Harvey Barnes links makes far more sense then Maddison based on what I've seen of him and what I've read of Ange tbh.

Medina would be a smart choice to go and look at.

Fantastic at Lens this past season. Aggressive and very good on the ball, think he's top for most progressive passes from any centre back in the top five leagues. He has a clause in his contract which is about £20,000,000, I believe?

Only issue with him are:

1. He is rather aggressive as mentioned. He is from Argentina so might spring a good partnership with Romero but maybe we need someone with a bit more calming presence back there alongside him?

2. He's 6 ft. Quite small on the centre back side, but he's good in the air. I remember Lisandro Martinez also being labelled short before he signed last summer and he was great for Man Utd.

3. Lens have just qualified for the Champions League. He may opt to stay for that alone.

Will also prioritize the Argentina NT no matter what his injury status is.

We would lose both our starting CBs after each window

If you can completely fabricate the interest of another club that might pay more, you could create a sense of urgency that isn't there?

Who is going to tell Spurs that Newcastle aren't interested in Maddison?

Leicester? nope

Newcastle? Nope

If Spurs really want him, they could be persuaded to act a bit hastily

Son is 31, his best days are definitely behind him. Gil is nothing like Son, we do need to find someone who can provide 10-15 goals at least from that position as well as being able to supply some assists too. Gil ain't that player
I'm not saying it's going to happen, but Gil may very well thrive in Ange's system. I think it is too early to write him off just yet. Let's give him at least half a season in a proper attacking system and then we can truly gauge.

Is Maddsion really an Ange signing?

The whole thing is a little bizarre and a little alarming to be honest because it just seem like it's levy pushing hard for this deal. I mean, have we now abandoned the idea of a DOF??

Why are people hung up on this nonsense,

Players should always be signed for the club which aligns with the managers philosophy, players don't exclusively get signed for head coaches or at least they shouldn't be, it's not 1996 anymore.

You've all been brainwashed by Conte.

Tottenham Hotspur could now make a late move for Nicolas Jackson as Mauricio Pochettino pushes for Chelsea to trigger the forward’s release clause.

That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (18/6; page 62), which notes that Ange Postecoglou’s men could look to snatch the Villarreal star from the Blues’ grasp.

Nicolas Jackson is attracting a lot of attention after a brilliant end to this past season in La Liga. The 21-year-old scored nine goals in the final eight games.

Tottenham could make last-ditch move for Nicolas Jackson
He is reportedly available this summer for £34 million due to a release clause. And The Sun on Sunday (18/6; page 62) notes that Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to pay that figure. The Evening Standard have even suggested that they hope to complete a deal next week.

However, Pochettino could face some late competition, with Tottenham also now weighing up making a move.

Postecoglou wants more options in attack ahead of his first season. And it seems that Jackson is on his radar.

The difficulty for Spurs is that any striker coming in is facing a battle with Harry Kane for game-time. But Chelsea do not have European football either next year – so that makes their task slightly easier.

Jackson would be an exciting addition. By modern standards, he is not going to cost the earth. And he has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ by boss Quique Setien.

There is an element of risk. He missed out on a £22.5 million move to Bournemouth in January over a failed medical. And clubs will be wary of reading too much into his overall record this past season due to his purple patch at the end of the year.

But Tottenham may feel that the price makes a move a gamble worth taking – particularly if it ends up annoying Chelsea.
