yep and I rate Maddison.

I just think this seems a case of history repeating itself with fuck all learned from previous mistakes. You bring a manager in then proceed to bring a player in who doesn't seem to fit the managers profile on what he needs in his midfielders.

Then if/when it's not working out we get eventual quotes from Ange half way through the season insinuating Maddison was a club signing.
A "club signing" would be someone like Spence or Gil: young with potential. Since when have we made club signings of established, 50 million players with potentially limited resale value? This one is more than likely "Ange approved."

Tottenham Hotspur are engaged in a battle to sign Porto winger Pepê, according to reports from Portugal.

Newspaper A Bola today features a piece claiming Spurs and Paris Saint Germain currently ‘attack’ the 26-year-old.

It’s even said that Tottenham have already moved for the signing, as they placed a bid for the Porto star, but that is ‘still far’ from what the Dragons demand for the player.

As for PSG, it’s only said they’ve shown willingness to sign Pepê, seeing him as a potential replacement for Neymar.

A Bola claim Porto president Pinto da Costa and the rest of the board are aware of Tottenham’s efforts, and use the player’s €75m release clause as a request.

The story doesn’t say how much Spurs have put on the table, or if they’ve shown any signs that they could reach the amount demanded by Porto.
We must point out that several front pages in Portugal today talk about the possibility of Porto manager Sérgio Conceição leaving for PSG this summer. In case he goes, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if he takes Pepê with him

If you can completely fabricate the interest of another club that might pay more, you could create a sense of urgency that isn't there?

Who is going to tell Spurs that Newcastle aren't interested in Maddison?

Leicester? nope

Newcastle? Nope

If Spurs really want him, they could be persuaded to act a bit hastily
I don't disagree, but I also don't think that clubs rely on Twitter to get that information, fabricated or not.

He does have some potential, but last game I watched him, he got himself in a defensive pickle and sent off….
He also scored a crucial goal in that 2-1 win. He was a bit rash… a hand in the face and holding back a player in the 92nd minute… but that feels like youth rather than deficiency.

I’ve seen a bit of him. He’s had some excellent performances including a really good game away against PSG in a game they won 1-0.

He’s going to be top class. I don’t want him to come to Spurs because we’ll ruin him. I’d prefer is to ruin an English defender.

Tottenham Hotspur could now make a late move for Nicolas Jackson as Mauricio Pochettino pushes for Chelsea to trigger the forward’s release clause.

That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (18/6; page 62), which notes that Ange Postecoglou’s men could look to snatch the Villarreal star from the Blues’ grasp.

Nicolas Jackson is attracting a lot of attention after a brilliant end to this past season in La Liga. The 21-year-old scored nine goals in the final eight games.

Tottenham could make last-ditch move for Nicolas Jackson
He is reportedly available this summer for £34 million due to a release clause. And The Sun on Sunday (18/6; page 62) notes that Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to pay that figure. The Evening Standard have even suggested that they hope to complete a deal next week.

However, Pochettino could face some late competition, with Tottenham also now weighing up making a move.

Postecoglou wants more options in attack ahead of his first season. And it seems that Jackson is on his radar.

The difficulty for Spurs is that any striker coming in is facing a battle with Harry Kane for game-time. But Chelsea do not have European football either next year – so that makes their task slightly easier.

Jackson would be an exciting addition. By modern standards, he is not going to cost the earth. And he has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ by boss Quique Setien.

There is an element of risk. He missed out on a £22.5 million move to Bournemouth in January over a failed medical. And clubs will be wary of reading too much into his overall record this past season due to his purple patch at the end of the year.

But Tottenham may feel that the price makes a move a gamble worth taking – particularly if it ends up annoying Chelsea.
A player that Poch wants who he has never coached, eh? I love Poch, but that should be a red flag right there.

Nicolas Jackson failed a medical at Bournmouth. Sounds like a big red flag with a youngish player. What was the medical issue?

According to the Super Soaraway, channelling Romano:

-----------------------------
Villarreal star Jackson was set to be the next attacking reinforcement, however the 21-year-old failed a medical, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Doctors determined he would be out of action until March 10 with a hamstring injury - not the expected February 10 return date.

That would leave the player just 12 games to help Bournemouth keep their place in the Premier League.
------------------------------

So, I can see why Bournemouth pulled out of the deal given Jackson would be out for a couple of months. But as "failed medicals" go, a 2 month hamstring injury is not the biggest concern. Especially since a new medical ahead of any transfer would reveal how well or not the hamstring has healed.

Cherries' transfer for Jackson collapses after Villarreal forward fails medical

Why are people hung up on this nonsense,

Players should always be signed for the club which aligns with the managers philosophy, players don't exclusively get signed for head coaches or at least they shouldn't be, it's not 1996 anymore.

You've all been brainwashed by Conte.

That is EXACTLY why people are hung up on it.

Spurs haven't done this for ages and Maddison on the surface looks like ANOTHER example of not doing that.

Bit fishy

Unless Kane is off

Summary of Gold piece on attackers/ midfielders

INs:
-Maddison ideal for midfield due to versatility
-Scott less likely, thought to cost £20m
-Young winger who can press, Barnes identified among other unknown targets

OUTs:
-Hojbjerg (Bayern potentially interested)
-Perisic
-Lo Celso
-Ndombele to be assessed in pre-season, if out then sale if possible
-Gil, Devine, Sarr to be assessed in pre-season (loan if out I guess?)

Allegedly, he approached both ours and Chavs interest with an "I'm too good to have to go through your interview/short-listing process" attitude.....

Suggests he's got a bit too much swag for his own good.
Still think he would have been a breath of fresh air if we got him and would have bucked our ideas up into the 21st century. Ange May turn out ok but is underwhelming compared to say poch or jn. Plus apart from the attacking football philosophy, which to be honest isn’t really that much of an ask compared to the shite we have had last 4 years, he will prbly be in munns pocket and therefore in levy’s.

Let's see, a club where the spirits are in the dumps that needs a psychological boost more than anything is between two managers who both fit the club's "playing DNA." One sets up a scaffold to observe training from above, has some weird personal behavior, and is generally aloof. The other is a master motivator, father figure, who trains the players himself rather than leaving training to his assistants, and considers the club "his" club. Seems pretty straightforward to me who to pick.

As for your assessment that he will be in Munn's/Levy's pocket, what exactly in his 27-year career has led you to believe that will be the case? Can you give me some examples from his past where he has been a "yes" man?

Son is 31, his best days are definitely behind him. Gil is nothing like Son, we do need to find someone who can provide 10-15 goals at least from that position as well as being able to supply some assists too. Gil ain't that player
Can rich play that role ? Think he played on the left for Everton a bit. His fans keep switching his best position. For his position is with another club and we buy some quality players like Maddison , young Scott and a proper CB.
