From what I have heard, though, the U-21s is not about getting results, but playing players in different positions and formations to assess their strengths. That being said, we really haven't produced any real talents lately, but that is not because the results are bad.

That is a good point. But using this theory any player who makes it to the PL would basically just coast from that point on. Which is not the case. I still think a proper motivator can squeeze something extra out of even the most accomplished players. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
