So yeah, all the money they spent and their depth is still shite.

Jesus was injured half the season and they didn't get in a player to fill in. They got one defender to cover two positions and he is injured.

Looking at their business without bringing Levy into it I'm not sure they spent their money wisely at all.

Take out Rice and its a pathetic window from them

I actually agree. They’ve not had a good window at all. Havertz is an awful signing, genuinely terrible. Pointless waste of money.

Rice is class and Timber did look good pre unlucky injury. But I don’t view them as much better having spent a lot of money.

They finished second, and improved their squad further (although the Havertz transfer was a total waste). They got unlucky with Timber ACL.

Anyway- we finished 8th so needed reinforcements far more than them. We sold our best player and didn't get a back up CB...
THat second sentence is key, we sold the best English striker since possibly Greaves, and replaced him wiht Brennan Johnson. They didn't lose anyone important, only strengthened.

Shitting on Woolwich always brings us back together eh

Honestly don't know how their fans aren't rioting. Amazing what winning the net spend will do for some fans.

I'm not too unhappy with our forward line.

Ultimately I don't think we have the pull to attract an elite 70m+ attacker, while Solomon Son Johnson could be an exciting front 3 with pace and skill.

The real crime is what has happened at CB.

If that's our lot I reckon we will finish top 6, possible top 4 or potential title tilt. Hard to call but dont think we will have a bad season like some pundit pricks have predicted. January I reckon we will get Toney. Have a bet on that. 😊

Havertz is shit, and they should have got a proper striker, but those are rarer than unicorns right now. On the other hand they didn't lose one of those unicorns, they strengthened their midfield significantly with Rice, and Timber is good depth at CB.

Other than depth in various positions, they couldn't have done much to improve.

We seem to be landing more hits than misses lately, which is nice. Early days but yeah, him, Vicario and Maddison seem to be settling in well early.

Udogie + Bissouma have .. and I hate this cliche but it seems appropriate, been like new signings.

There are positives. So I won’t say we’ve had a shit window. But I will say it feels short of being a good one.
A well-balanced post, for once. Could we have gotten one or two more signings? Probably. A backup CB should have been prioritized. Did not shifting the deadwood hamper us? Definitely, and that's past failures still haunting us. But is it critical at such an early stage in the Ange project that we get all the pieces of the puzzle in place? Not really, especially since Ange is still trying to figure out the puzzle.

And I'm not buying the "replace Kane" argument. It is always a recipe for disaster when you try to replace a WC player, and a CF at that too, of which there are just a handful of decent ones. Rather, you change the system to get the same goals from other sources and that is exactly what Ange is doing. Let's give him a chance to prove it out, yeah?
