Late bloomer I guess.....

Brighton are the ones that ought to feel fucking stupid... They're the ones that had him up close for 3 years but couldn't see it.

I didn’t realise he was there. Another bit of good scouting by them. With our record of being unable to find decent number 9s it’s the perfect market to buy a whole host of them and loan them out. Although I guess it’s easier if like Brighton (although not in this instance) if you have a feeder club in Belgium who can also loan them out.

My brother in-law is a season ticket holder at Coventry said he was brilliant for them.

What was the atmosphere at sporting like?
I only ask as I’m off to watch Porto v sporting next month.
He will be in the PL next season, 100%. Is that away in Porto? Was brilliant to be honest. Ref was a wanker and the crowd were hammering him. Good support generally

We are at the stage where we need first team players, we need a world class midfielder and would take either a world class No 9 and/or wing forward. Think we are solid enough in most areas except these three places. I know there are high hopes got Bervall, but is he ready for Premier league next year?

The reality is that “world class” players are players like Osimhen and L Martinez.

If you want either, you’re not even getting close to them unless you’re prepared to spend £100m+.

Levy never will. His transfer strategy simply won’t allow us to get those players. We’re always going to be hoping that a player with potential can grow into a top quality player. That means taking punts on players like Brennan Johnson and having to be prepared for them to flop.

The best we can hope for is that FFP creates pressure on other clubs in the same market as us which enables us to squeeze a bit more value out of players.

We definitely need a striker and a RW at a minimum. That’ll give us Kulusevski as back up for RW and AM. Son needs to be our starting LW with Johnson/Solomon as cover with a new striker (goalscorer) brought in to compete with Richarlison.

I doubt we’ll be doing anything in the midfield department. I imagine Lo Celso and Højbjerg will move on, with Bergvall coming in. That gives us Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma, Skipp and Bergvall with Donley & Devine on the fringes too. Maddison, Kulusevski and Bergvall are all able to play AM. We have a lot of depth there, I just can’t see us doing anything even though there’s no KDB/Modric type player there (which would be nice).

Imagine persuading Ange to pay those wages
Come On What GIF

Agreed.

If you look at our current options on the wing, Johnson was signed because of who he could be, Solomon was on a free to be a squad player, Kulusevski was a good deal on a player with potential, Werner was a cheap, stopgap option.

All of them are punts. None of whom should be starting for a team with aspirations for the top four (in current form).

Our front three is poor. If Son is having a worldy and Richarlison is in form then we'll be alright. But even then there's a weakness on one flank. A 32 year old Son and a very patchy Richarlison cannot be our best options. We need a proper front three, that are of high quality, Son's current level and higher.

For a club as rich and as high a revenue as we have, (8th in the world, 1st in London) who are forecast to get even richer, there's just no excuse not to go out and get those players. The financial capability is there but for ENIC the willingness isn't. We're a spreadsheet to them, not a football club.
100 % correct. If we go into next season with those players you mention as our main striking options then we stand still. We don’t get to the next level with them. Sonny is the only one when in form who’s top drawer.

That’s a £120-140m forward line (Kulu/Richie/Johnson) that you’re talking about.

They are inconsistent and rarely all fire at the same time but the beating at Fulham had nothing to do with the forwards, who had scored in every EPL game until then.
Yes it does because it constantly breaks down when it gets to them and with the way we play we end up easier to break on because full backs are in the pitch. If we want this system to work you need to have technically good forwards that can take the ball and link the game not give it away 70% of the time.

As much as I'd love for this to be the case (and we've seen Liverpool, Brighton and United among others blood young players into the starting 11 with success), I reckon he's at least a couple years off.

Top talent, no doubt about it, but prefer to see a loan or 2 in more competitive leagues first.

Buy some experience please, thanks.

I can’t help but think us losing Perisic all season has cost us a few points here and there. We need more know how and guile in the squad. Remember naybet and Davids and what they did to the team. Another one of those signings could really help this squad.
I think an experienced midfielder could really help this team.

Only Bentancur from our midfielders has consistently played at a higher level than we have achieved.

This is currently the highest level the likes of Bissouma, Sarr, PEH, Skipp and lo celso have played. Could add Maddison in that but he is an attacking player.

We have talent there but could definitely add better experience
