If you replace one player with another, how does it come to "not costing sweet fuck all"? It still costs money - overall costs not increasing is not the same as not costing anything. I mean, if you would be leasing a car for which you pay 700£ per month. And you return it to vendor and take on another car that costs 650£ per month... then... are you getting car for free then? Or are you actually paying 650£ ?
Werner will costs the salary he is on (and which he is not even close to be worth of) and that's a fact.
Plus there are more abstract things - like opportunity cost. We took on a foreign player for a season who is not really good enough. Alternative would have been to... you know, try with someone that at least MIGHT be up to needed standard. But we can't because he takes one of foreign players spots.

No we can’t afford £50M on CG when we need tomimprove our attacking quality. Eze plus a top CF is needed more than CG who is not even a 6 which is what people want more. We have enough midfielders of the sane ilk plus the youngsters. We can’t play them all.
