It really feels like we're trying to buy a team for the future to me. I really hope there is a management structure above Ange to ensure the players that come now are going to be of use in 2 or 3 years when we've probably changed coach 3 times knowing Levy.

You should read up - we’ve completely restructured the footballing side, academy, youth set up, recruitment etc

We are well set for the future

The structure now is to recruit players to fit playing principles and then recruit coaches that fit the team instead of the nonsense we did before recruiting players for the coach.

Think that's always been the aim going back to our first getting in a DoF with Arnesen/Comolli, we were just really bad at it.

Threw the baby out with the bathwater by sacking Comolli alongide Ramos, wavered on the structure a bit with Redknapp.

The DoF in principle is supposed to be a consistent presence, the squad should be able to remain consistent from manager to manager, and whoever is in the manager position should consistently be a similar fit to the last man and the next man, with all able to work alongside the DoF and with the existing squad.

Kind of depends on success on the pitch though, as when it all goes tits up as with Ramos, there is temptation to have the DoF fall on his sword too rather than allow him to choose the next guy.

Just read that we want to sign Joao Gomes from Wolves. That's fine by me but he'd cost at least what £40m? We still need AMF/Winger and CF.

If we get Eze for £60m as per his release clause, I don't see us spending £40m on Gomes too, not to mention the possible price of a CF. Unless of course we have a summer budget of around £200m. Bearing in mind we spent £40m already on Gray.

Edit and we need a back up GK.

but if teams are parking the bus and there is no room in behind; we need to be able to put the ball in the box and have players that can attack it.
this was a huge problem last year wasnt it. when we dont have the quality to break teams down with football, we didnt even have the option of just putting it in the box and causing chaos because we only had one forward who would actually willingly go for headers.
