Are we done? Or is there still smoke? What does Hercules think?
Who?There were posters calling Jesus and Zinchenko 'world class' in the ENIC thread...Jusayin![]()
I don’t think anyone has specifically pointed to Jesus and Zinchenko and said that’s Woolwich “showing ambition.” That’s just nonsense. If they have please do share.
For me anyway, the example of Woolwich showing ambition is them finishing second in the league, and the following summer they then go toe to toe with Manchester City and beat them to Declan Rice for £100 million.
They then supplement that with Havertz for £60 million and Timber for £40 million.
THAT is ambition. That is a level of ambition that Daniel Levy and ENIC have never and will never show.
Trying to claim that Woolwich aren’t doing far more than us to try and be successful on the football pitch just makes you look foolish.
Amd won an FA Cup, something we won't do.
Massive differences.
2 things can be true.
1. People have claimed Zinchenko and Jesus to be ambitious and our model is very similar to how they built their squad even though fans love to hate us for it now and praise them,
2. When this squad gets to the phase of the cycle when it can really challenge, nobody has any trust Levy to sanction the 100m plus 200kpw wages on the player to push us over the edge. And they have good reason not to trust him to do it because he’s never done it.
But at the end of the day, the wage room has been cleared this summer and the space in the squad is very obviously being prepared for it to reach that phase of the cycle and there is no fucking point perpetually moaning about it not happening in the past or talking down and hating on every signing we make until we get to that point.
It’s most likely next summer when Werner’s loan expires and some veterans in our squad reach decision time in their contract lengths. Can we not just enjoy the ride until we get there? Football is meant to be fun. And if it’s not what’s the fucking point?
Yep!! Would provide great competition for our other CB's!

I'd enjoy it a lot more if I was paying a season ticket price that is somewhere around out league position Vs other clubs. It’s most likely next summer when Werner’s loan expires and some veterans in our squad reach decision time in their contract lengths. We need to sign a LB/LCB before this window ends. Udogie and VDV can’t play 50+ games this season. Spence, Davies & Dragusin can do a job at LB and LCB but it’s not ideal. It's the major weakness we have in the squad atm and we should address it sooner rather than later.
Disagree wholeheartedly, in the Redknapp, Mourinho and Conte eras we definitely switched towards buying older, more established players. How else do you think we ended up with one of the higher average ages by the time they were all done?We haven’t switched strategies though mate. I just don’t see why people keep peddling this narrative.
Since ENIC took over the club we have always by and large operated a buy young talent policy and hope they develop into top players policy.
Yes we may be paying slightly more for players now, but that is more to do with general inflation than a change in strategy. We’re in a world now where Bournemouth are buying 50 million strikers ffs.
Of course I hope I’m wrong, but I just can’t see what evidence suggests to people that we are going to be competing with City and other European powerhouse in the market in the near future for top players that will help us to genuinely challenge.
They don't have to play 50+ games...
Even with deep cup runs we'll get to roughly 50 games.
And if you think Udogie and VDV will play in early stage cup games and majority of Europa League games then you are way off.
We still would need to improve STARTING XI before thinking about rotation options (which - as you pointed out, to some extent we have).
I don't have any problem with the "buy young" approach! We haven’t switched strategies though mate. I just don’t see why people keep peddling this narrative.

...only cos they got £60-65m off us to spend with!We haven’t switched strategies though mate. I just don’t see why people keep peddling this narrative.

...yeah, cos that's just what Man City need is even MORE revenue and money coming in!I'd enjoy it a lot more if I was paying a season ticket price that is somewhere around out league position Vs other clubs.
Maybe this should become a worldwide football rule whereby clubs have to alter season ticket prices based on last seasons league position.
Haven't you learned anything from last season? Look at how we struggled without Udogie and VDVThey don't have to play 50+ games...

All of your hard work is beginning to bear fruit
N'jie and N'koudou
Thanks blud. You just proved my point for me while pissing over your own argument at the same time.
So, to settle this once and for all.
We don't attract top players even when we qualify for the Champions League. Other top clubs sign top players even when they miss out.
I agree with you, there were times we went for more experienced players, but I think that was more as a supplement to our but young potential strategy as opposed to actually changing it.Disagree wholeheartedly, in the Redknapp, Mourinho and Conte eras we definitely switched towards buying older, more established players. There’s been been 3 significant shifts towards youth, early Martin Jol, early Pochettino and now.
