Ah right, you want me to phone Daniel and tell him to send you a message confirming what our transfer business is then, righto

You want a valid link from where? from whom? The Club? ENIC? Ange? That's the whole point of journos mate and JPB is a good journo who has close links to the club and if he's putting that out there then it's most probably going to be true but you're right what do I know let's just go off our delusion instead shall we.

Further to this you show me a valid link claiming the contrary seeing as you want evidence can you show me anything which suggests that we are still looking for forwards and midfielders, happy to have my mind changed if so...

Sorry, it gets boring. Stop trying so hard now and just accept - as things stand, journalists have roughly zero clue what is going on with our plans.

Stop hanging on the lifeboat that are the journo quotes and drift to the sea of unknown with free mind :)

I agree with you, there were times we went for more experienced players, but I think that was more as a supplement to our but young potential strategy as opposed to actually changing it.

However in classic ENIC fashion, we did a half arsed effort of that too and only got older experienced players that we could get a cheap deal or were way way past their best.
A big part of this that Spurs fans simply refuse to accept is that established players in their supposed prime on the whole see us as too big a challenge. Van Der Vaart was a last minute arrival when Madrid threatened to exile him.

We’ve all seen the quotes from Morientes, Di Maria.

So when we do sign 26-32 year olds it’s no surprise that they end up disappointing, BECAUSE THEY AREN’T THE BEST of their age class. If they are still at that age and they haven’t been to an elite club yet- there’s a reason. If an elite club wants rid of them at that age, there’s a reason.

The signings of Soldado, Paulinho, Doherty Hojbjerg etc annoy me way more than a prospect that doesn’t work out, especially when it’s obvious that they are lacking in certain crucial attributes (Janssen/Emerson). And the analysts have way more to look at than I do.

^ lack of ambition..

Depends on how good they really are which we can't know yet.

I'm not going to be false and sit here acting like we didn't need a game-changer in our midfield this summer because we did.

But me personally and maybe that's just my own bias towards young players, I would 100% prefer to get exciting talent with genuinely elite level ceilings into the rotation instead of plugging in more established players with bigger names just because they are on the market. I don't want to see talent like Bergvall and Gray get stunted here so we can shoehorn in mercenaries like Ugarte or Locatelli who haven't made the cut at bigger clubs. If either of them are upgrades on Bissouma or Bentancur they are minor upgrades and absolutely not game-changers.

To me it wouldn't be ambition to just sign a CM for the sake of it.

Anyone who praises the scum (whilst claiming to be a spurs fan) should be either binned immediately, or hung, drawn and quartered.

Okay no quotes from you to backup your opinion, cool

If you wanna live in a delusional world of pink fluffy bunnies and rainbows and think that the club are still looking for forwards and mids then that's nothing to do with me, I'm just here to remind you to set your expectation like you should always do with this club, anyway you carry on mate 😆

Furthermore you can't use a quote that said "energetic midfielder" that came from a journo and at the same time tell me to stop hanging on the lifeboat of journo quotes, you're contradicting yourself you nutcase lmao

Well, or actually world is not just black-and-white... and there are some options inbetween too?

Like for example -
3. Hope for the best possible outcome and support the team passionately, but also acknowledge that you personally feel that the step club took this year is not enough considering context.

Sure and people are completely entitled to that opinion. It might be justified, we just don't know yet.

But does that option mean you have to post in every thread about the players we have being shit and how much better the gooners or Chelsea are because they have the ambition required based on spending more?

Because that is what people are doing. Every time another club signs a player (Chiesa for example) we go back to the same messages about how shit our players are and why can't we have that player... It's an obsession for some and you see it here and twitter.

What would be a “game changer in CM” in your view? Because to me we had 2 immediate areas of weakness.

A 1v1 wide threat & a no 6.

You could argue we’ve gone for 3 too prospects to address all those issues.

Whilst they aren’t the finished product yet, I’d definitely argue that in terms of pure talent, they all raise the ceiling.

laugh at me all you want but I’d much rather build around Gray, Bergvall and Odobert, than Ugarte, Locatelli/Gallagher and Chiesa/Neto for a myriad of reasons. You can’t deny talent as long as the willingness/Application is there (N’Dombele !)

These pathetic meltdowns really annoy me, the worst examples I’ve seen are Fullkrug from Dortmund to West Ham, Illing Junior & Barrenechea from Juve to Villa (they’ve loaned out both since!), and the one that pissed me off the most was that idiot on Twitter saying That Rutter to Brighton was them showing ambition, but Odobert was bad, it’s just a circle jerk of negativity over EVERYTHING.

That sounds like World of Hotspur.

I’m agreeing with you mate. I’ve said since before we signed him I fully believe Archie Gray is England’s #6 within 2 seasons. It could even happen this year.

We haven’t switched strategies though mate. I just don’t see why people keep peddling this narrative.

Since ENIC took over the club we have always by and large operated a buy young talent policy and hope they develop into top players policy.

Yes we may be paying slightly more for players now, but that is more to do with general inflation than a change in strategy. We’re in a world now where Bournemouth are buying 50 million strikers ffs.

Of course I hope I’m wrong, but I just can’t see what evidence suggests to people that we are going to be competing with City and other European powerhouse in the market in the near future for top players that will help us to genuinely challenge.
  • Between 2013 and 2021 the average age of players we bought in was 23.2 years old.
  • In 2022 it was, coincidentally, also 23.2 years
  • In 2023 is was 20.8 (Vuskovic, Johnson, Maddison, Van de Ven, Veliz, Phillips)
  • In 2024 so far it's 20.5 (Solanke, Gray, Odobert, Bergvall, Yang, Dragusin)
Looks like a switch in strategy to me.

Source: transfermarkt and a spreadsheet. I have excluded goalkeepers because they tend to be old. Can't be bothered going back further than 2013 to the early ENIC days.

I can’t speak for everyone but I’m really looking forward to that sweet hour of relief between the window closing and some cunt on here starting the January Transfer Window thread.

Okay? BTW 29k a week sounds a little cheap
It's Bournemouth. That's the market they're in.
People get really hung up on transfer fees, but wages are part of the package.
We paid £60m for Richarlison, but he's on £175k a week.

£50m + 5 years of £29k a week = £57,540,000
£60m + 5 years of £175k a week = £95,500,000

Haaland at £375k a week and "£50m" is £147,500,000 for 5 years.
And let's be serious, there's more than the £50m and more than the £375k a week
