He was a better defender at Lyon than alot of people give him credit for but he's clearly improved in that area. He wasn't fit and settled last season and dealt with niggling injuries. He was also only 20/21/22 years old at Lyon so still clearly developing.

The stuff he's great at is the stuff you can't teach.
In the game I saw, which was a domestic game, he was slow to track back, and while the ball was pinging around in his own box, all his team mates were throwing their bodies around to block shots while he was casually standing at the top of the box doing nothing but watching!

Harder to do than it looks though. Davies or Winks tries something like that and they'll end up with a yellow for their trouble. Tanguy is deceptively quick.

Dembele did it. Ronaldinho done it. Messi does it.

Ndombele definitely tries to get an opponent to commit before embarrassing them.

He's just ridiculous at times.

He has such confidence in his touch and control that he can do things very late. There's no time for defender's to react.

Then he combines his strength with the tekkers and he looks unstoppable.

Can't wait until Gio is fully fit. They'll both enjoy having a fellow mf baller to link with.

Unless Lo Celso was injured there was no reason why he wasn't out there for the 2nd half.

Isn't it pretty obvious that physically, he's being delicately managed with last season's troubles in mind?

(He himself said just this week that he's only "nearly there"....)

There's no plausible reason, between GLC, Dele, Winks & Sissoko, that a sufficient performance level could not be reached in order to give Antwerp a proper game tonight.... I'm pissed enough as it is that we had to drag PEH out there for yet another game.
