Back in November, Adebayor explained that his massive wages go to support projects back in Togo:

According to the article, he's on 70k from us already but also 100k from City. That is why the transfer talk always includes a signing-on bonus, which would cover the lost wages. So saying he's 'turned down 100k' requires added context. If Spurs break their wage structure for him, it will involve raises for many players, and our wage bill could very well balloon, so it is a tight rope for Levy.
If City are looking to simply shift him (and why not... they don't need the money), then the deal could be a rather good one. What we would have paid City in inflated transfer fees would go, instead, to his wages via the signing bonus, which could also make him a cheaper option than someone like, say, Damião, who would probably cost (slightly?) less in wages, but will force a gigantic transfer fee.

I remember that. I think recently though he said he will take a pay cut because he loves at at spurs so much.

On the MOTD commentary Motson said Adebayor has the best contribution stats (goals and assists combined) of anyone in the league..........surely Van Persie's are better?
I just saw something on a Belgian football site about Pool wanting Ade and selling Carroll this summer ? Anything about that in the English press ?

Adebayor is the only player in the prem to be in double figures for goals and assists. All be it the 4 against newcastle certainly helped this, but its still a very impressive stat.
