Match The ENGLAND thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

3 RBs, 6 CBs and no LB seem to raise a lot of eyebrows and rightly so, Bertrand and Targett are good enough LBs to play for England. TAA is the future, about time now Southgate ditches either Walker or Trippier.

Happy for Phillips and Ward Prowse, Grealish and Maddison are better than Mount for me.

Greenwood and Abraham are there because they play for big clubs, Kane and Ings are enough ST options, Rashford can play there too.

My ideal 23 man squad would be

GKs - 3 GKs

RBs - TAA, Walker

CBs - Gomez, Dier, Dunk,

LBs - Bertrand, Targett

CM/DMs - Henderson, Winks, Ward Prowse, Rice, Phillips

AM/Wingers - Sancho, Grealish, Madison, Foden, Sterling, Rashford

STs - Kane, Ings

**Rice and Phillips can play both CB and DM roles**
Southgate also uses Walker on the right side of a back 3.

In that case does does it then leave the door open for a player from another position to come in ? Be interesting to see who is announced.

I was surprised the squad was only 24 players for the 2 matches - thought it might well be 30 players simply because many players will not be fit (eg Kane yet to feature in teaining) so a lot of rotation would be required..

Has to be personal at this point.

But it could be because Southgate doesn't know where to play him. He likes fast attackers either side of harry. A DM, a passer and a ball carrier/goal threat in midfield. Mind you, I've just described Grealish in that third midfield position!

You're probably right. It could be as simple as that. Southgate might just not see him and Maddison have not having what it takes to be international level players.

Just thinking how much better off England are now with attacking options than a few years ago. Almost a problem as to where to play them, perhaps this is one way.

Centre Forward - Kane or Abraham or Ings
Left Wing - Rashford or Sancho (and Hudson-Odoi)
Right Wing - Sterling or Greenwood

No need to recall Vardy !

And maybe as Kane has not played any pre-season minutes, The FA should send him back to Spurs to start pre-season training rather than playing someone who will clearly not be fit enough to play for England ?

Why in the flying fuck are our players being called up for a meaningless England friendly when we have Europa qualifying games coming thick and fast?
If it was Man Utd or Liverpool having to play Europa qualifying games their players would be given special dispensation

No, they wouldn't. The europa league game is on the 17th so what is the problem? Some of us actually like watching England by the way and technically they are not friendlies.
