It seems like what you described is a plan, you just dont like it.

Based on all the reports I've seen so far we are going to be in for one or two established prem players to add to what is looking like a very talented set of young, hungry players who with the right coaching shouldn't take 5 years to start performing to their potential

And for the record, Rice did nothing to push Woolwich forward.

Wirtz has only just been purchased after years of buying players like Diaz, Darwin, Endo, Gravenberch etc.
That's right, I don't like it because it's what we always do and it's not working for us in terms of a squad that can cope with absentees.

Those players you listed for Liverpool contributed to a league win, so they couldn't have been as bad as the ones Levy bought to finish 17th.

Seems rose tinted specs will get you no-where apart from easily pleased. Let's see if the 'plan' gets us anywhere in the league next season. I'll be amazed.

The argument for selling him at the right (High) price is to do with squad numbers.

In CL we can only have a maximum of 17 overseas players plus 4 HG players (ie 21 players - or less than 2 players per position).

At the moment for CL as CM's we have : Bissouma (need to upgrade DM), Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall and Gray (5 players for 2 positions), so we have one player too many for CL without being short in another position.

Sarr offers a great engine and powerful running, but not too much else right now - Liverpool want him for his potential as much as what he does now.

I'd be happy to sell Sarr for say £40m/£50m to free up an overseas place in our squad for another position where we are short of players. I'd retain Bentancur for his experience (which Sarr doesn't have), whilst hoping we bring in an upgrade on Bissouma.

To add numbers to a 'Sarr less' CM squad, I'd bring in Devine who is versatile (can play DM, CM and has played both wings for E u19) and Donley to help cover injury prone Maddison and Kulusevski - both Devine and Donley count as List B and do not take up a squad place.
I’d put Sarr in the squad ahead of Gray or Devine (hg quota aside) but I see where you’re coming from. However just because we have CL squad restrictions doesn’t mean we have to sell.

No comparison - Sarr takes up a squad place, Devine does not.

As of today we have TWO players too many in CL squad, so we need to find ways to take them out.

But at same time we were running short of players - and for that the only way is to add List B or CT players ...... and we do not have good options of CT players, but we do have options in List B of whom Devine is probably the best option - looked good last preseason and has played both Championship and in Belgium top league.

We could drop Sarr into PL and domestic cup squad only (no CL) as we have a little more space in that squad, but doubt if he'd play much unless we have an injury crisis.

Updated Squad, 06/15, THFC 25-26:

ST: Solanke, Richarlison
LW: Son, Odobert, Tel, Moore
RW: Johnson, Kulu
CAM: Maddison
CM: Bergvall, Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma
CDM: Gray
LB: Udogie
RB: Porro, Spence
CB: Romero, VdV, Danso, Dragusin, Davies
GK: Vicario, Kinsky, Austin

Loanees/Youth: Vuskovic, Yang, Devine, Phillips, Dorrington, Ajayi, Lankshear, Donnely
Players with active interest in them: Son, Davies

---
By the looks of it, we'll likely have to move on Son to be able to field another attacker, and thats assuming Kulu will actually end up as our backup CAM. Eze would be awesome but he sort of unfortunately plays into the current logjam at LW. There is really no way we buy another striker either unless Richarlison gets sold or loaned away first. Same situation at CM though we have a lot of incentive to sell at least 1 of Bentancur or Bissouma rather than offer them another contract- and it seems Bissouma is much more likely to leave.

I'm sure Frank will take a big look at the situation before figuring out what to do next, but, based on crowded roster, it seems like our options for really changing the squad are actually quite limited.

On the right hand side, numbers 12, 17 , 20, 24, 26, and 38 have been absolute killers for us in terms of overall xfer funds lost. In a lot of ways I think we are still recovering from that, especially in the context of Levy's views about it, and how it influences his willingness to spend big and take chances.

Gray, Odobert, Tel, Bergvall and Moore count as Youth (U21). We have a few spots available in the squad without having to sell.

My guess is that Romero will stay. He's hot blooded, an emotional player who may have a sharp disagreement with Ange's sacking in the short term but tempers cool.

The part that doesn't make sense to me is why Romero would be so attached to Ange given the mostly poor results the last 3/4 of Ange's run and Romero's being upset at the mismanagement of his injuries. We heard before winter ended that Romero wanted out. If it suddenly changed with the Europa final then suddenly changed again with the sacking, then perhaps his aspirations are still fairly pliable.
I hope he goes. Sick of seeing that mug earn big money for playing 20 games a season for us.

He’s just trying to orchestrate an exit. The club will argue they brought Danso in but the manager is bound to want another centre back or even two given that he sometimes likes to play three at the back.

It’s in defence actually where it is possible to witness where the manager will be stitched up this window.
If/when Romero goes, it's obvious Frank will be told he's got more than enough in Danso, Micky, Drag, Ben, Archie, Vusko, Ash and Dorrington...even if a couple go out on loan.
