Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Is it? What is the point in keeping him?

He’s a very promising centre back. The pundits on Sky Sports etc were constantly praising him last season, highlighting his class and potential to become a very good EPL defender. If he was already at Sheff Utd, it would cost a damn sight more than £6m to purchase him. Blackburn reportedly wanted £10m for him but we signed him for circa £2m due to a clause in his contract.

Maybe, just maybe cause they miss 50% of the season? Maybe cause Messi is talking shite about Romero? Maybe cause neither are good in the air?

What even is that supposed to mean? It's just a bit of a sad attempt to move the goalposts. "We never sign top players..... No, who are tall.... No, who have 30 caps.... No, whose first name begins with a V".
Another ironic post considering apparently mine was 'excuses'

What's the point in being so negative and dour all the time? You wouldn't pull a spurs fan from the past and plonk them in this thread and get them to guess we'd just won a European trophy 5 weeks ago.

I hadn't noticed he'd played in almost all the league games in Klopp's final two seasons. You'd think he'd be an important part of the squad from them as he's surely club trained etc.
Yeah they’re just stacked in his positions. Salah on the right and now with wirtz signing he’s even further down the pecking order centrally. World Cup year coming up and 2 years left on his deal probably wants out

Ok, but we already have Romero, VDV, Danso and Dragusin, with Vuskevic coming along. Where is Phillips going to fit in? Hes not even kicked a ball in the premier league yet.

He needs a prem loan move.

He turned 20 this week and already has over 70 appearances at senior men's level football. He's just had an incredibly successful loan where, despite the team's league position, the fans were singing his name and calling for him to go back there. He's massively improved over the last year or so and got much better at using his body. He's 6ft 4 and quick. He'll be in the next England U21 rotation, likely as a starting CB which will increase his value. £6m would be a joke.
He'll be club-trained after next season so basically wouldn't take up a squad space if we decided to keep him.

No comment on Romero and Van der Ven, for a start?

Pfffft

Nobody is saying none of their punts come off. Romero was the lowest risk punt they’ve taken, I agree and a very good player.

They are talking about 70-80m+ transfer fees abs 200kpw + when signed.

We all agree that Levy can’t sign a player like Xavi Simons.. why is that?

We all suspect Eze will go to Woolwich or City if they compete for him. Why is that?

Fair enough, the Glazers were a bad example to use. The point remains that ours aren’t exactly miles better when they’re only putting in an average of £5m a season of their own money. That probably only covers the wages of 2 Archie Grays.

£5m x say 20 years = £100m IN versus one Billion pounds OUT (10 times £100m - but out rather than in, total difference £1.1 billion)

Don't take this the wrong way .... but understanding finance is probably not your thing !

I'd do this deal 100%. Got all the right tools talent wise and for me, this is the pool level we should be looking extensively at.

If people like it or not we won't appeal to the Wirtz, Zubimendi's, Huijsens of this world. We should however be the perfect sweet spot for players like Elliott, who simply need minutes at this stage and age in their careers.

I'd make this move absolutely no questions.
No brainer if true.

If we signed him, Hutchison and Anderson - sure might not benefit us at CL level immediately, but would give us a hell of a side in 3-4 years
