I won’t pretend to be an expert in footballing contract law, but there is a commercial reason for keeping a clause confidential.

If you genuinely want to keep the player and fend off any and every approach, you can add all sorts of conditions alongside the basic monetary requirement, so as to frustrate and delay the negotiation process.

It’s a contractual tactic to obfuscate.
But if you make an official enquiry and there is a release clause related to a specific player, they're then legally compelled to reveal that, right?

Surely.

Otherwise what's the point.

Or am I missing something else?

Can't imaging inserting such a measure if there's no mechanism available for any other club to discover it.

Once MGW gets over the line what do we still need and how many exits do we expect?

Obv a 6 is the glaring gap…
Poss a Left back too

I’d say that’s it. Imo Richarlison will stay as back up ST

Son, Bissouma, Davies, Solomon, Gil will sold if we can find a buyer

Loans for Phillips, Yang, Scarlett Devine etc

This basically.

If he was due a medical today, Forest must have been aware, and sanctioned the deal.

There's no way Levy wouldn't have done his due diligence and the club arranged a medical.

This i think is paper talk, and Forest can do nothing about it if the release clause has been met even of the information was leaked by his agent, or even the player himself, confidential or not.

Just typed exactly this in the other thread.

Ignore it and let the papers have their fun. That’s all it is. Maybe a bit of Forest PR for their fans too because Marinakis is embarrassed by the clause being public now.

C'mon... Embrace the chaos...

Did we seriously think WE'D simply complete TWO £60m transfers in 24hrs WITHOUT any Drama???! :levylol:

:levyhands: oooh, a potential hitch!

:levystare: did you naive fools thinking this would be straightforward??

This could be Forest management trying to save face. They've received quite a substantial backlash from fans about this "low" fee. So they can say it's tapping up/illegal approach etc to get fans back onside.

Alternatively, the players agent leaked the clause to us and it is an illegal approach that has precedent in PL. Olise to Chelsea and Suarez 40m+1p to Woolwich were two deals that were cancelled due to similar circumstance.

I genuinely don’t know.

It seems almost absurd doesn’t it. Do they send emails saying ‘is it 50 million?’, followed by ‘is it 51 million?’, ‘is it 52 million?’ etc etc.

Seems absurd.

But I understand its use as it helps delay the process and allows the selling team to sit down with the player and do their best to convince him to stay.

I suspect that the higher the clause is, the happier the selling club is to have it disclosed.

It wasn’t any old secret release clause. It was a double secret release clause.

If MGW agent tells Spurs there is a release clause - then how is that Spurs fault or the players?

Let’s see Forests “evidence”

Didn’t they try hanging onto Sheringham as well when we came calling?

You want to talk about tapping up… Real Madrid and Bale. Atleti and Romero. Simeone ringing cuti every second day. Now THATS tapping up.

Whatever the case it’s hard to see how MGW ever plays for them again. This is just a costly face saving exercise. Buy the fat cunt a souvlaki and a bottle of ouzo and all will be forgiven
