The part I don’t get at all is what Forest is hoping to ultimately accomplish here? No matter how this eventually gets resolved, there are significant material downsides that can’t possibly be offset by a temporary PR boost in the eyes of their supporters. If somehow MGW is legally obligated to stay there, they have to deal with an upset star on a dwindling contract who doesn’t want to be there. If they succeed in just letting this drag on a few more weeks, they’re only giving themselves less time to reinvest that fee in their squad.

And in every scenario, they’re poisoning their own reputation. It seems they only got someone with MGW’s talent and pedigree to sign with them in the first place by inserting that release clause. Now they’re making it clear to any other young, talented player that this is how they’re liable to behave when it comes to getting the opportunity for that next step up, which seems very stupid when that is the business model every club in their strata needs to be able to execute to remain a viable Premier League club. Really cutting off their nose to spite their face.

If he was due a medical today, Forest must have been aware, and sanctioned the deal.

There's no way Levy wouldn't have done his due diligence and the club arranged a medical.

This i think is paper talk, and Forest can do nothing about it if the release clause has been met even of the information was leaked by his agent, or even the player himself, confidential or not.
Hope you are right, either way I'm less concerned with their protestations and more concerned that prick Marinakis will pull out all the stops to scupper the deal by offering MGW a kings ransom to stay.

What's the matter here? That we didn't give them a courteous heads up that we're activating the release clause of the player , even though we had no legal obligation to actually do so?

This is nonsense.

Now if i was going to buy a club but i wanted more Money to spend under FFP what i would do first is pump some money into the club under the guise of Stadium naming rights.......
There are alllllll sorts of hijinks the parties could get up to with that stuff if they were so inclined.

Because just a straight-up stadium naming rights deal, even if it's a market-leading one, wouldn't be that financially dramatic.

But we know ENIC has been casting about for minority investment. And if it didn't have some club investment portion to it, why would anyone be worried about conflicting with Newcastle?
