I get that, and I agree.

We have Porro running on fumes, Udogie is coming back from injury and Spence has played a lot. Souza needs time, so Robertson is not a bad back up for 18 months at all. Doesn't affect any summer plans, and comes in as someone who can instantly play and is so well suited to the league.

Agreed. And wants to captain his country at the World Cup later this year.

You know we're not signing the 2019 version of Andy Roberton right and the 2026 version where his legs have gone and been shunted out the Liverpool team by Kerkez who is shit. :D

I get wanting people with fight and mentality but not much point if they can't run.

Not exactly excited by Robertson but I can see the logic.

We desperately need leadership and cover at LB while Souza finds his feet. Robertson's the type of character the squad desperately lacks. He won't cost much and in 2 years we can flip him to MLS or Saudi.

Also, it's hard to get quality players to move in Jan and we don't even know who the next manager is gonna be. I'd rather we keep our powder dry and wait until the summer to spend big than spaff 150m on fifth choice players just because.

Jan is the window for these kinda cheaper opportunistic deals, not for the big statement signings.

Liverpool fans aren't happy about it.

More I think about it, I think this is an excellent signing actually. He'll be good in that position for a couple of seasons.

He's better than Udogie.

He’s 31 mate. Given we’re likely paying peanuts for him, if we get even a couple of good years out of him, he’ll still be our best value transfer in donkeys years.

Mentality wise, he’s a million miles ahead of every single player at the club, I say that without even the slightest fear of contradiction . I know the term gets thrown about a lot, but he’s a proper winner, if that mentality rubs off on even half the squad then he’s well worth signing.

Even at 31, he’s still levels above a fit Udogie. He might coming past his peak now, but you’re still talking about a guy who was probably the best left back in the world for a decent chunk of time.

I’ll be chuffed to bits if we do sign him.
But again is this an opportunistic signing as Davies is out?
Have our scouting team been monitoring robbo for the past 6 months? It’s all BS. We have no one decent lined by our scouting team.

Robertson is Scotland's captain yeah? Obviously guaranteed to start at the WC, but I think he'll want some guarantees that he'll get plenty of game time, which I'm assuming he now has. Useful signing as let's be honest, another injury is just around the corner.

He instantly becomes our best LB.

Udogie is vastly overrated by Spurs fans and he's made of glass.

Remember when we signed a 30+ Ivan Perisic? Sometimes you need those players who add leadership and experience.

Also gives us 2 sets of fullbacks rather than relying on Spence to cover LB and Porro to play every game.

Makes you wonder exactly what our ‘policy’ is!
Wdf do buy a kid whose not ready yet for 13M then buy a 32 yr on high wages. Why not just go out and buy a proper LB ready for first team action . Robbo could prbly do a role for us but he has played under klopp and Arne who play diff to Frank. We need quality up front but have so far got no one other than a run around Connor. Where is the flair this team needs. I’d be all over getting lookman on loan.
The Brazilian’s not gonna be anywhere near it just now. Robertson gives us 2-3 years to send him out on loan and get him ready to play for Spurs at 22-23 year old.

We need options there mate, that position’s been a massive problem for us this season and you simply can’t rely on Udogie to be fit for any length of time.

Absolute no brainer of a signing. We still need some better technical footballers in midfield and the attacking positions, but Gallagher and Robertson in one window goes a long way to fixing the weak, loser mentality that’s plagued this squad for years.
