Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Seems we should consider some sells in the midfield if we are thinking of bringing someone in. No one there really excelling. Lotta promise from Gray, Bergvall, and Sarr, but not finished products. Bentancur so inconsistent these days. Palinha very good at what he does, but limited. Biss will never play for us again. Xavi needs to adapt. Madders aging w an acl recovery. Not sure where Kulu fits in the squad (wing? Mf?) and recovering from injury.

No surefire players in the group.

Wouldn't have made any difference he wanted to leave and wouldn't have stayed whatever was offered/promised. This wasn't simply the (and there was more than one) rants of someone not being backed or listened to, he was also suffering from ill health, depression and home sickness which all combined to cause him to engineer a move away without actually breaking his contract.

The Lewis's sacking Levy in April 2023 might have gee'd him up a bit.

It’s not how I want to call it, that’s how club accounting is done. In terms of FFP this is a neutral transfer that scored us goals to get 5th, then scored the winner in the EL final

I'm not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of FFP but if you are counting the money in and out by the yearly installments how can you see the Johnson deal in money paid to date and the £35m from palace as payed in one payment because I very much doubt it will be paid in one installment

It’s not counted in one installment either way. Thats the point mate. They count the value per year, so we’ve already had 2 years of value from the asset that can be effectively written off.

Some shit like that, I’m not an accountant either. Just repeating the way I’ve heard it explained. No doubt there are resident accountants on here than can do a better job than me

Yeah...OK, mate 😆

That is exactly how it works....Palace will repay similarly and budget accordingly offsetting by length of contract. Which is why the Chavs started giving out longlife contracts to befuddle FFP.

The point I was talking about is that it's a not a "neutral transfer" as we are losing money from the transfers in and out of Johnson.
As you say we are not accounts we are football fans and seeing as it's not my money I'm not really that bothered 🤣

Conte is the best coach we've had in the modern era. And yes, better than Poch.
He's proving he's still at the very top of his game at Napoli.

Said it before, will say it again.
We shouldn't have sacked him. We should have asked him to fix all the (real, genuine) problems he listed in his rant.
He didn't want to fix the problems. His rant was designed to get precisely the outcome he got - a big fat cheque to stay - because he'd already downed tools and fucked off, the rant itself not being quite enough - in Italy.

Conte quit in the middle of the season because he had accomplished his goal - mugging Tottenham for millions to sort out his short term financial issues.

Good manager, bad manager, irrelevant. He's a snake and a cunt of the highest order.

These are exactly the sort of players we should be replacing our shirt fillers with.

Yes, Yildiz and Diomande are young, but they’re not the same thing as buying some cheap young punts from Sweden or Burnley or Leeds. They’re already seen as generational talents, playing regularly and excelling in top leagues. If we can get them now, we need to try, cause it’s the only chance we’ll get at them.

As we’ve seen with Eze & Semenyo, if we wait till they already in that top bracket, we ain’t getting them anymore. Top players don’t want to come here once they’re top players. We need to get them when they’re on the cusp of greatness. That’s the way back to competing for us.

Mendes is his agent? Forget about this one then, he doesn't seem to like dealing with Spurs

Mendes will push Yildiz to Chelsea or Utd

I forgot to mention Kulusevski, would probably be more a 10 as well - I dont see him as a Frank RW.

Maybe Frank would play him LW?

He's not a 6. Terrier like presser/ball winner - but best in more advanced positions disrupting the other team.

In an Ange team would make a lot of sense. In a Frank one? Maybe - but at the expense of other, better players. Not as a DM/6 IMO.

We don't have any other, better players, though.

Maybe if we could buy them, if that's your point. But our midfield is utter shite, and has been for several years. I'll take anyone that's shown a hint of quality in the PL before. Because we don't have a single player in the midfield that should expect to get their name on a PL teamsheet at this point.
