Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The biggest for me was getting klinsmann. Thought someone was taking the piss when they told me he signed for us.

Those were, in retrospect, the "good old days" when you wouldn't really know about a signing until it happened (or if you spent £5000 on guesses from the teletext ads), and you'd rarely know who a player even was. "Some Johnny Foreigner", unless you'd religiously watch Futbol Mundial. Oh, and the transfers could happen at any time.

Most exciting for me, in a general sense, was actually around/after Euro 96 when a ton of exciting players dropped in to the Premier League at once (Carbone, Poborsky, Cruyff, van Hoojdonk, Ravanelli, Zola, Di Matteo - anyone remember the football cereal advert? ). Unforunately, beyond those exciting names, Sugar replaced Sheringham with Iversen, and our Serie A import was Vega.

Another loan though so I guess we're still stuck with him in summer.

Spurs should just go and pay whatever it takes to get Eliot Anderson out of Nottingham Forest.

He's the one.

The way he played against Man City recently persuaded me.

Special player with abig future.
Dude, we bought N’Dombele on the basis of playing a blinder against Man City.

I watched the Forest-Everton match yesterday and Garner was the best midfielder on the pitch by a country mile.

Don’t make decisions based on a single data point.

Anderson is a quality player who will likely have his pick of top sides.

He doesn’t strike me as someone who will find the allure of London particularly compelling.

Forest will probably receive multiple bids. They’re still involved in Europe and fighting relegation. I don’t know if they will entertain us after the MGW fiasco.
Personally, I don’t believe they are going to sell in January

Chances are, we make good money leasing out players. Doesn't solve being 'stuck' with him, but probably works out well for the cash flow, whilst having the potential for a good permanent fee if he performs well.

(e.g. loaning a player out for the last 3 years of his contract at, say, £3m per season is better selling him for £9m over 5 years, especially even if he is released and the loaning club are paying the wages)

Really hoping if we do go in big for Diomande that we’ve finally gambled on the right player…. After being burned so many times with Ndombele, njie, nkoudou etc and then not going for Kvara

Please this time.. be the right one

Paying 80, if rumours are to be believed, million for a player who has played 1583 minutes at the top level would be only marginally better than signing a player over his Youtube highlights.

He's a half a year wonder. Even the best scouting work couldn't compensate for having to make a decision based on such an incredibly small sample size.

It's one thing to hope that we one day would become the kind of footballing giant that could afford to sell the farm for promising teenagers without worrying one bit about the possible repercussions. It's another to simply claim that we should act like one regardless.

Diomande's physical attributes particularly, his power, means he's highly likely to adapt to the pace of the PL.

I don't see that being an issue. Now there's merit in debating the sample size in terms of him having the requisite quality.

But let's be honest, if he keeps producing at the rate he is we probably won't be able to get him.

The Club has to take risks to sign players that have a high chance of becoming elite. He's in that category

Yes we need a passing midfielder more, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do this if there's a chance of it happening.

The assumption is that the borrowing club will cover the full salary of the loanee.

Don’t know if that’s going to be the case for Solomon who would be, surprisingly, Fiorentina’s third highest earner (after DeGea and Keane).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal has been sweetened in this case.

I think it's mostly guess work as there's no info out there on what Leeds and Valencia have paid.

Cancelo is leaving Saudi for pittance...

Inter fancy him. Could be an experienced, solid stop gap at both full back positions.

Can't go wrong with little transfer fee and an 18 month contract whilst we hunt for better available younger players in the summer.

We aren’t stupid enough to sign him for that kind of money. Not desperate enough either. He’s just not proved it. They bought him for €20m in the summer. He’s not worth much more than that now.

The biggest positive for me so far is Spurs have seemed very un-Spurs like historically speaking.
Under Levy Solomon would stay on the books until he’s 35 waiting for someone to offer us 70mil for him and we’d wait until Jan 37th trying to squeeze another $50 out of a deal for BJ.
