Reading a lot of comments on here I think 99% of people think this squad is not great. Some would say a bit shit.

Of course there are the mental 1% who thinks it’s title winning but the less said about them the better.

But with this poor squad depleted by injuries to some of the better more important players I’m not sure what people expect of Frank after a few months.

Does he have players at his disposal bought by 4-6 different managers as well?
Be a bit crazy if that is the case. I’m guessing it’s more likely 4 than 6 though.

Man needs time.

Although a lot of posters claim 10 league games tells them all they need to know. I guess the noise around him not being good enough will only get louder at this point.

I dont think the squad is that bad tbh, a lot of comments last night about the difference in quality between the two benches. think our quality far exceeds newcastles tbh. But something has got to be done about how for the 3rd season in a row the squad falls apart through injury

fully fit our bench probably looks

kinksy
spence
kulusevski
xavi
Davies
danso
bergvall
Tel
Kolo

and that's having to exclude Johnson, Richie, Dragusin, Takai, Gray and Bissouma from the match day squad all together.
that's not bad on paper tbh, certainly blows away the likes of newcastle:vicarioconfused:

Can’t blame Frank, the squad is absolute poverty. At least 2 of our big signings have worked out this summer, Kudus and Pahlinha are mustard. Xavi does need more time but I am very concerned he can’t do it in the Prem. Muani should be fine with a run of games.

Richy, Dragusin, Biss, Davies and Kinsky all need binning.

We have 3 right sided players in Kudus, Kulu and BJ and then fuck all on the left, Tel is a CF really, Richy is useless and Odobert may come good but is not ready yet. Moore - long way off.

We’ve got 4 class CBs in Romero, VDV, Danso, Vuskovic - but 2 are sicknotes and a 3rd is on loan.

It’s a mess and will take time to sort out whoever the manager is. Frank somehow has this rag tag bunch 3rd - we should be fairly happy with that

Further to my question about xg against this, vs last season....
Mr Cleary here very Clearly explains how we've seen a 35% drop in chances and xg against.

The problem is, 35% better than fucking awful is still awful. There's a long, long way to go.
I think it's going to be as full as fuck now for a few months while he tries different formation and players and is hamstrung by injuries.
Is what it is.

Is it even 4 managers? I think Ange did a pretty thorough clear out of players. Of the Conte squad only Cuti, Bentancur, Porro, Deki, Ben, Richarlison and Sarr are still at the club.

The problem is recruitment. The people that constructed this squad did a piss poor job of balancing the needs of today with tomorrow. Mainly in the attacking third.

This time last year under "clueless" Ange we had an XGA of 9.69 and we'd played Newcastle away, Woolwich, Brighton away, ManU away, Palace away. And our XG was 19. It's currently (XGA) 10.70 and the only real tough game we've had is ManC away, we've played 6 of the bottom 8. Our XG is 11.25.

How many chances does Richie need to score? He could have had a hat trick in the first half alone!!!!
Why are we not just throwing someone like Dane in the mix last night - literally couldn’t have done any worse , I don’t think we looked to bad last night as the team was creating chances , however I’m a bit annoyed at Frank for not giving more youth players a chance

A chance to thrive? .....Or the chance to take a battering in a severely weekened line-up?

Getting rag-dolled by Joe Linton, Woltemade, Burn and Thiaw isn't a positive experience for a 17 y/o.

Very succinct and accurate summation. :tanguythumb:

A big problem for the manager is the decision making from the forward players.
None of them seem to be able to hit a barn door or anticipate anything.
The main problem here is Simons..we knew we were in big trouble without Maddison and Kulusevski in terms of creativity. Simons was our marquee signing and most people hoped he'd be maybe even an upgrade on Maddison and Kulusevski.

So far he's been so so underwhelming and the worst part is his own decision making is probably the worst in the team. He's meant to be our creative match winner yet he plays like a coward. Takes little risk on the ball and goes for the easy option nearly every time. Multiple scenarios where he has got into great positions but not made the right decision. He's been a complete let down and the main reason that our attacking balance just looks off. He was meant to be the glue that puts it all together but he's just made it all worse so far.

I figured it was poch - just Davies, maybe Nuno, Conte, Ange, and Frank. Think all mourinho players moved on.

But still the summers of 2021-2025 4 different managers have been involved in saying yes or no to players.

To have spent over 100m combined on Richarlison and Brennan Johnson seems alarmingly poor recruitment. That is basically the Kane money waisted. And its hard to know if our recruitment has improved? Simons and Tel cost nearly a combined 100m this summer and the jury is massively out on them signings too

Very unlucky to miss out on Hincaipe and Eze but we don't get to eat at the top table right now

Yeah, he looks like a youth in mens football.
Someone made the decision on bringing him in so, must have seen something in him they felt would be a plus.
Maybe he needs more time but, he just isn't involved in the game at all.
Team is starved of a creative spark, he isn't performing and the rest have long term injuries.

Jay Harris made a point about Xavi on the last VFTL pod. He made the point about Damsgaard taking 2 full seasons to bulk up and get used to the physicality of the EPL. The point he made was that Xavi looks very similar. Let’s see but he does need to toughen up

Morons are gonna moron.

What I want to know is why do we keep on getting so many injuries? Is it just a hangover from the last manager or is it something worse going on at training?
I read a weird take before think it was on X where someone was saying where the pitch is retractable there isn't enough Dirt under the Grass so it was causing Injuries, I don't think its that - but for a club as rich as we are and now being so Data Driven, you would hope we are throwing money at it and trying to get to the bottom of it!

I think it would help everyone if Frank stopped with the 4231 and switched to a 433 and started using Simons and Bergval as 8’s. It would help them and help us move the ball through midfield.

That's pretty risky given that the moment we remove either Bentancur or Palinha from the midfield our xGA goes up like a fucking hockey stick graph.

The thing is, we either play him at some point or sell him, I think he needs to be pushing for a move in January for his own good, let him go have a career somewhere else, he may or may not be good enough for the PL but until he plays we won't know.
