This is what i was saying previously about posters exaggerating our bad performance this season. Yesterday that was a 50/50 game despite what the biased commentators were saying. We created good chances to score and didn't take our chances.

This is no where like last season when we created nothing and surrendered on a regular basis.

League games
Burnley = Good Performance
Manchester City = Good performance
Bournemouth = Bad performance
West Ham = Good performance
Brighton = Good perfomance
Wolves = ok performance
Leeds = Good performance
Villa = Ok performance
Everton = Good performance

The main thing about those games is that we are reducing the opposition to nothing chances for the most part. Burnley nothing, City had 1 good chance with Haaland, Bournemouth shit performance, Spammers created nothing, Brighton scored the 2 goals but other then that nothing, Wolves set piece and nothing, Leeds 1 decent chance other then goal, Villa score both their chances from range and Everton had a Grealish chance early on and not much else.

Last season i could name more chances that the opposition had in 1 fucking game. The improvement is night and day but obviously he's restricted with the limitations in the squad, massively restricted.

Udogie, Bissouma, and Spence were signed when Conte was manager (I think).

But Sarr and Udogie never really got a look in under Conte. And Udogie was I think still on loan to the Cub we bought him from. It was Ange who made them (and Bissouma) all starters at the beginning of the 23/24 season. And then brought Spence back into the first team rotation in 24/25.

This time last year under "clueless" Ange we had an XGA of 9.69 and we'd played Newcastle away, Woolwich, Brighton away, ManU away, Palace away. And our XG was 19. It's currently (XGA) 10.70 and the only real tough game we've had is ManC away, we've played 6 of the bottom 8. Our XG is 11.25.
So the xg is up, but the actual number of chances is down.
What does that mean?
Maybe that stats are a bit meh?

I can't get too upset with last night. It was always going to be a hard game. We would likely have lost by more last season.
We can focus on the title push now anyway.

Well yeah, their loans ended when Postecoglou started his job at the club, but they weren't signed with him in mind. Bissouma made his debut 6th August 2022.

Nah Sarr was around for the 22/23. Debuted 1st Jan 2023. Just never really got much of a chance under Conte - like Bissouma albeit Bissouma was signed as a Starter and Sarr was, back then, still very much a prospect.

We look better defensively this season than we did under the previous manager regardless of what metrics tell us. I was, and am, willing to give the previous manager a bit of leeway because of injuries and the fact that, whether people here accept it or not, the focus from January 2025 was clearly on the Europa.

Frank, has us playing much more cohesively in defence. He is hamstrung by injuries, as much as the previous manager was, and is similarly affected by lack of creative options in midfield and a toothless attack.

I think Frank is a very good tactician, and the longer he has with this squad, the more the squad will improve across the pitch. One big issue with him is that he is on a steep learning curve. He has never managed a club of our stature and tradition. Nor has he managed a team involved in so many competitions at a time (one less now, of course).

I am increasingly coming around to the view that he will adapt well to the requirements of the role. He seems, to me, to be an intelligent, practical, and talented manager with excellent people skills. My only concern, at this point, and it is a significant one, is whether he is brave enough for us to play with a passion and desire to be winners. For me. He ticks every box except, right now at least, that one. I will be delighted if he proves me wrong.

Ok performance Vs Brighton?? We were far better then them and undeservedly went 2 down. We deservedly equalised and should have won it.

Wolves I think was ok but I can understand people saying it was bad. To me it was ok because we restricted them to zero chances bar their set piece goal and created chances to be comfortably ahead in the first half.

Villa Def not a poor performance. We scored early, created a few more chances and restricted them to zero clear cut chances. They scored from 2 excellent long range efforts and moments of brilliance.

Either way, none of those players were signed with Postecoglou in mind, and they were all signed when Conte was manager. Apparently Sarr made 11 appearances in the latter part of the 22/23 season.

No, stats are not meh. They're a fundamental part of the game, and the coach you love, is a big stats guy.

It means that we're scoring goals at an unsustainable rate, and not conceding goals at unsustainable rate. It won't last forever, and when it balances out (and it will because we had a very favorable run to start the season), then results aren't going to be pretty. Unless we can think up a new attacking strategy outside crossing, which statistically, we're atrocious at then we're in trouble.
