We don't have the technical players to play possession-based football effectively so not sure why some here believe a possession base manager is what we need.
Liverpool didn't have the players to play Klopps football when they hired him.. At first glance we didn't have the players to play Pochettino's football when we hired him.

You don't put a squad together and then hire the manager.. You convince a top manager to join who has principles that you want, and then you let him lead the rebuild and shape the squad in his image.

Yes, and then you lose the players who can't adapt or are not suited or good enough, and buy those who are equipped.

What you must however achieve in the period of transition are decent if not spectacular results.

So, the requirements are a quality manager with a philosophy that has been shown to work and expenditure in that 85 - 100% centile, and objective progress.

Fair enough..but how long do they get to do that because with us it seems to be 6 weeks before we put our hands on the trap door lever.

Klopp was obviously superior to Rogers but it wasn’t a complete 180 in philosophy.

Klopp needed to make adjustments but going from Rodgers to Klopp to Slot (all 4-3-3 guys with variations in approach) is nowhere near as extreme as going from Poch to Jose/Nuno then to Conte, then Ange then back to Frank

What we needed was just an improvement on Ange, not in philosophy but execution.

That's a very interesting take, I've never really thought of that.

He's also massively uninspiring. players are bound to be doubting the style of play.

De Zerbi is an interesting shout, Tony Bloom said one morning at Brighton the coffee machine wasn't working and De Zerbi practically totaled the whole room! Mafia stlye, like. he's crazy

great tactician though......
That is what we need a great tactician playing front football but with and edge.

But he got found out after the first 10 games.

Frank's playing 4D Chess by being found out after 4 games... :D

There is nothing to find out in franks ‘system’

Agree
We give up the football far too easy in midfield and up top, which then just compounds the pressure on the defence, that along with our at times risky playing it out from back all adds up.

Lost count of the times when players not bursting their balls to receive a pass or making runs to take oppo away to make space for the pass to others.
Should be two or three options within easy distance at all times to receive or offer the football.
Madders is such a big miss with his vision,
Wee Luka could still give them at 40 a lesson how to run the engine room.

Last year we gave Palace their “Spurs Tonic”
with their ist win, that game will be their template again.
They went at us from the off and never let us settle on the ball, their goal was a defensive error of ours and Vic went on to keep the scoreline “respectable”,sound familiar….

Thomas and the lads should know what is coming and be up for the fight and intensity,it shouldn't need us to feel ill done by referee decisions to get us going as was the case last week.

Every point is a prisoner now lads…..

Agree with that and even Madders used to get the ball in midfield and look up top for options and realise that there weren’t any so had to go backwards or sideways while Archie or BJ just stood there but this down to the manager!!

I believe there’s a 433 with the current squad and decent manager could finish 8th

Build from there

Never forget, that for all his flaws, Ange was so much worse.

From 17 games Frank has collected 22 points.

Ange has collected a grand total of 5 points from his last 17 PL games.

I don't particularly rate Frank, but compared to Ange, he's a different class.
