Ceding the possession voluntarily to a team that was 17th in it coming to this game, and one that comes out as one of the most direct teams in the league in whatever measure you look at, is something I can get behind; even though this was more of an embarrassing park the bus job than your typical sit-back-and-counter one. I so far have seen little to conclude that this team actually knows how to counter.

The next 2 games are also against teams that give Palace a run for their money in directness, so get ready for more of this if allowing 62 percent possession to a team that usually has it in low 40s was the masterplan.

I think there is a place for joy that we won. That and relief, and a slight sense of it meaning we hold onto a manager who does not seem to be offering something more inspiring.

He’s not solved the midfield. Looked a mess today with none of them looking like they knew what they were meant to be doing. But the players were terrible in defence keep on giving the ball away and also further up the pitch their pressing was so disjointed. How much of that is on the manager and how much of it is on poor players who’s up to debate. But I just look at this squad and it is just not good enough when you compare it to teams of recent years, it is miles off.

I am not sure at all that Frank is the answer, but the players are letting him down
