If you go back to pre-Poch, we had Jan Vertonghen who was so mashed in his confidence, he looked as bad as Gary Doherty. He was labelled as "shit," with a shit attitude etc.
Then we brought in a competent manager and we got our Super Jan, now regarded as one of the best CB's we've had in decades.

At this moment in time, I'm convinced that what happened to him is currently happening to the majority of our team. They have no confidence in their manager, and this is translating into their own self confidence. They're mashed ATM and need that change to a manager who will bring all that back.

I see all these posts saying our players are mentally fragile, yet I dare anyone on here to claim that after close to 2 seasons of having your faith and confidence virtually obliterated, you wouldn't also be approaching every game without a high degree of trepidation. When losing becomes the norm, no matter how mentally strong you may be, the expectation of some form of disaster is right there with you, and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy, as that fear and hesitancy essentially makes your worst fears come true.

That team needs a manager to come in who, right off the bat, they look at and their first thought is "he'll fix this, he knows what he's doing."

That, for me, is the initial manager bounce, stop the rot and build up that belief in him and themselves from thereon.

We thought we'd get that with Frank, fixing our defensive frailties, and the initial signs were that he did. However, his ultra conservative approach has just eroded that, then the errors started creeping back in, which made him even more timid in his approach, and now we see a team that are at an all time low confidence wise.
Well..... a lot of your rhetoric is aimed at the Manager..... can you not see these players are not good enough at premier level..... FFS ....every week these players have the chance to change things on the pitch and every week it's just the same....apart from the first half at home to Dortmund..... They are just crap footballers... that Symons is the worst signing since Ndombelly.... and Bissooooma.... and...well all of them..... no manager will make this squad better.... we are doomed

Can YOU not see these players usually play out of their skins when 1 or 2 down?
Night and day levels of effort, risk taking and decisiveness.
They can play. But they seem to be restrained all the while it's level or we're ahead.

If they're keeping him they should do a sit down with Vinai to explain why. It's a joke we're paying these people millions a year to run things yet there's no back up plan
Wasn't he Levy's mate and a Levy hire?

I don't really buy the "he's a gooner"
He worked for the gooners.
Nobody would have whined he was a gooner if we'd taken prime Henry off them.
But I do worry he's not very good at his job. He's done very little since he arrived that suggests he is.

100% every positive thing is to do with fan interaction. Nothing to do with football

Depends if we get in top 8, we could be in the playoffs and the dates for those matches are in about 3 weeks
I'm assuming we beat Frankfurt away. They are a mess and lost 3-1 yesterday.and sacked their manager about 2 weeks ago.
If that happens then it's 2nd week in march for last 16 ties so he'll only have league games for 6-7 weeks so no way he survives those

Poisoned chalice of a job, anyone with eyes can see the board lurch from so-called decision to decision with no semblance of a cohesive plan in place, that £150m spend frequently will depreciate to £50m worth of assets within a year or two of purchase, a club routinely made to look like they're fumbling in the dark by clubs with a fraction of our available resources, I would imagine most of the savvier coaches also think in terms of opportunity cost, taking a job at Spurs and signing up for 18 months of sheer eye-gouging frustration and an inevitable severance could end up costing you far more lucrative opportunities in a managerial career.

Disagree

Getting sacked by Spurs doesn’t even damage your career

And you accuse me of rhetoric!

I think some of our players are flawed and the squad building from Lange and Paritici is horrendous however I keep saying this, 2 things can be true BUT IMO they're not playing for him and the standards have fallen so badly that they're not playing with any pride now and inevitably not playing for him.

However you can't argue that Frank is getting the most out of the players and actually doing a good job because the squad:

is better than:2 wins in fucking 15
is better than 2 wins at home all season
is better than being the team that have played the least amount of through balls in the league
is better than the being the team making the most amount of errors leading to goals in the league
is better than creating the 4th lowest XG in the league
is better than playing some of the worst football in the premier league
is better than dropping 5 fucking points to West Ham and Burnley -2 teams btw who collectively mustered up 2 wins in 25 matches between them before last week.

And I'll add that not one player has improved under the coaches guidance, this is meant to be a coach who gets the best out of players and platform them so they improve, tell me someone, anyone who has improved this season?

He's crap.

The only manager who really staked their reputation coming here since Poch left is Conte, Mourinho was clearly already checked out by the end of his utd tenure and just looking for one last big paycheck before winding down his career, Nuno, Ange and Frank will never get a bigger job and likely never would have if they'd turned us down.

Same reason Conte came, is the reason other top managers will come

Conte signed an 18 month deal when Son and Kane were still here and performing to the best of their ability, probably only ever intended to extend for a year max IF things went well, saw the writing on the wall with the shit window we provided him with in the summer and virtually downed tools from that point on. His tenure reflected more poorly on us than him in retrospect, which is staggering considering the manner in which he pushed the nuclear button.

Ok.... I see your point..... but we are no better than last year with mostly the same players..... we can't keep changing managers because the players don't like their system.... it's the clubs decision to get rid of players not up to the task.... then replace them with better.... but..... I'm not sure we have enough money for 8 new players....

Villa were a bag of shit, looking like they might get relegated again. Seemingly spaffing money up the wall left right and centre without real long term improvement.. They went and got seemingly a promising young manager in Gerrard, who then had his career tank there.. Their fans were dejected and didn't like the team at all..

But then Villa went and flexed whatever muscles they had and offered the world to Emery. Who's reputation perhaps wasn't as inflated as it is now, but was still seemingly above Villa's current level.

If the willingness is there to make a proposition attractive.. It can always be done. Every club is a poisoned chalice until it isn't anymore.. Remember Liverpool with Hodgson, Dalglish, Rodgers.. And the drama of their "transfer comittee" Before arriving at Klopp

Inter were known in Italy as Crazy Inter. A nonsense of a club.. Before they gave Conte what he wanted to build a winning team that has lasted (even with sales they've had to make)

Now, whether the willingness from the club would be sufficient to put on the table what they'd need to. I'd be less optimistic about that. But it can always be done. Thinking it can't, would be letting this club off of the hook.

It's most likely "itk" attention seeking BS.
But I'll cling to some hope that issues ARE being seen.

Possibly. But it’s their long term contact. It’s the one who broke all the stadium NFL stuff over a decade or so ago. So they have an in for sure. I think they are US based.

They say Lewis’s want him gone but Vinai doesn’t yet.

It’s also worth remembering that Vinai had nothing to do with the football side at the scum, he wasn’t involved in any of that and so why he has been making these footballing decisions here is bizarre.

We’re one of the best paying jobs in the world for coaches and regularly spend 150m in a transfer window, plus we also just started paying adult wages for senior players. Add to that, we’re in the Premier League where everyone wants to be…

Sky are waffling shit.
Its a poisoned chalice though. Ithink we are a good destination for a Glasner or Iraola, maybe De Zerbi. Great wages and potentialy could achieve something but the top tier? Conte is the only top tier manager we've attracted when at their peak since Venables. The best ones will sit tight and wait until June. Its just common sense for them. Its not how we'd all like it but with these owners its the reality.

So we just go down then?
You realise we can sack Frank for about £20m but a new squad would be hundreds and hundreds of million, right?
It would be foolish not to sack someone that's seem 2 wins in about 3 months.
