If he wants to stay, great. If he doesn't, so be it. Let's get the maximum transfer fee for him and let whoever wants him, pay through the nose. Davy and Jan can more than hold their own and Foyth is an excellent prospect.
No player is bigger than the club and we can't let anyone hold us to ransom. If they are that short-sighted, they can do one.
I completely disagree with this kind of philosophy Mrs P
Its kinda saying we should just accept our status as a selling club instead of striving to be the best. And it sends the wrong message to Harry and the rest.
However you seem such a nice lady I cant bring myself to ever add a x to your post's
:dierpochhug:

edit...so what i have decided is that from now on, if I disagree with you, im going to find a random cretinousgoat cretinousgoat post and disagree with that instead

Bayern are not a league rival. This is why it will probably happen.
If he actually wants to go and we got top dollar for him, then so be it. At least the ridiculous price of VVD would give us a barometer for how much to sell for.

We’re like a hydra anyway - cut off one head and we’ll reinvest in talented youth that will probably make us stronger as a whole.

Though we need to keep our heads about this. If Toby holds the club to ransom and fucks off, then by all means we can slag him off.
However, there could be nothing sinister in this and anyone wanting to fuck him off already is just playing into the scummy media’s hands.

Spurs fans are to myopic to worry about that.

Just like 2 seasons ago when they bragged about finishing the season strong with Trippier instead of Walker.

It's all fun and games until Sanchez/Foyth fuck up because they are young and inexperienced. Then suddenly it's not our old, injury prone, past it 4th choice CB that we let go but Toby bloody Alderweireld.
Fact remains that the big contract has been wheeled out for Harry. Signed & sealed. That blows away the “skinflint cunts won’t pay the going rate” arguments. Maybe the manager doesn’t think that Toby is worth what he’s demanding in terms of his contract? Because if he did, the contract would have been dealt with by now. The club has proven that with the Kane deal. So maybe Toby bloody Alderweireld needs to be more realistic, agree a reasonable contract with the club & get back to fighting for his starting place.

Pochettino was asked about Alderweireld's future....and he gave a 6 minute reply...

"Look this season I am not going to talk....look, many things happened and are going to happen and happened in the past. I am not going to talk, because that is a private matter. Only I am going to talk about what you saw on the pitch, about the performance, about decisions. It's obviously that like I explained in the press conference. I'm not going to talk about it.

"I told you players that have the possibility to stay here, I not talk about him, I talk about in general always. I want player commitment with the team. Players that are not happy, from my point of view, everyone can leave. Then it's different if they can negotiate with Daniel [Levy] and be agreed.

"But for me I want players who are fully committed with the team and want to fight for the team. The players that are here are all committed. Not one told me today that they wanted to find a solution. That is why I'm not going to make any comment about that situation because you know it's so...everyone can have their opinion and it's a lot of parts in different situations that can give or provide different information.

"The only information and the only truth that I can translate to our fans is myself. Today I am so open to listen to players if they want to leave. But if they are going to be here I want all commitment. If not tomorrow we can find a solution. But I told you, it's not to say 'Gaffer, you are so aggressive in your position'.

"I am so tired about talk about this. If some player want or some player are not happy or some player, I understand that if some players don't play they can be disappointed. But the rules in football. Look, you created football.

"You created the rules. It's only 11 players. Why didn't the English players in the past put 22 or 24 players playing against 22 or 24. Why is the squad 25 players if you can only play 11? Why not rules like in basketball where you can change one minute, five minutes in, out? Why not in Italy all on the bench and you don't need to give a list of 18 if you have 25 in the squad? Oh, many, many things that..come on. I am so tired of that. I want to enjoy football.

"If I am here, in my position like a manager because the club trusts in my decision, not because I am so handsome. Maybe that too but (laughs). No, but look for me it's wasting time and wasting time and wasting time and lose the opportunity maybe to improve or challenge for big things. I understand every single situation, I understand agents, I understand everything that football becomes a business, a big business too and protect their asset and duh duh duh, daa daa, doo doo too.

"It's a lot of things that I can say, but I promise you I'm not going to waste time talking about individual situations. Who's not happy we have the possibility to fix. If not professional, contract, every week or every month the club pay on the 28th the salary. The player when they sign a contract they sign to be available to be selected by the manager.

"But when they sign they sign to show the manager in training that they deserve to play. The manager can have some predilection, maybe to play with three at the back or four or five. Look players who don't play they need to wait, if I'm going to be sacked or if someone, or another, finds another solution.

"Look you know better than me, but it's wasting time like this. It's not going to change. You're not going to put pressure on me, or put pressure on my decision. Nobody is going to blackmail me. The club is not going to put pressure on me or if not I go home. Look, many things can happen. Sorry for giving you this situation, but I am so... I want to enjoy football I promise you.

"When I started playing football it was because I loved the emotions that translated with the ball. When I started my career as a manager it was to provide the players with the tools to play and enjoy football on the pitch. But sometimes it is so tough, but that is part of my job too, I understand."

Thank fuck he wasn't going to talk about it...
:pochwtf:

Amazing stat

Defensive record

Quite remarkably, in each of Alderweireld's seven full seasons as a professional, he has always played in a team that has had either the best defensive record (five times) or the second best defensive record (twice) in the league. On the two occasions that he played in the league's second best defence (Ajax in 2011/12 and Southampton in 2014/15), the number of goals that they conceded was only one more than the best defence.

Throughout our analysis it became apparent that Alderweireld's association with organised and disciplined defensive units, who don't concede a lot of goals, was not a lucky coincidence. This was a trend that continued after he signed for Tottenham as they posted the joint best defensive record in the Premier League last season and they currently have the best defensive record in the league this season too.

On Alderweireld and Vertonghen, I would give them 4 year contracts at 100k per week each (mad money though it is) not including bonuses and that would possibly be job done. The same to Rose probably and if Walker committed, the same again. That unit of 4 is that good. The only issue is whether it would stifle the development of younger players in their positions with bright prospects?

In my humble opinion however getting those 4 signed up would be financially better than any sale or chase.

I hear none actively talking of leaving and they all know the only money that will prise them away are going to be world record bids for players in their position.

We are maybe 2 seasons away maximum from telling all clubs bar the big 2 in world football to royally fcuk off.

My mate keeps telling me that Van Dijk is the best CB in the league too, not a Saints fan either. Don't know why he is so highly rated because all I remember of him is air-shotting that tackle on Kane when he went through three Saints defenders to score last season.

Haven't seen a huge amount of him but surely Toby is just as good if not better. I genuinely haven't seen a centre back as defensively sound as Toby at Spurs since Ledley himself.

Toby makes Virgil van Dijk look like Dick Van Dyke , tell your mate to have a word with himself and end the friendship if necessary.

Fucking love Toby - he was leaving City Airport today as we arrived, my 6yo saw him, ran after him, and he stopped and had a chat. Utter gent, and true hero to my boy now

Let’s give it a rest eh?

Let’s put the scaremongering to bed during our best week of the season please

I believe in actuals not heresay, we have enough giong on to worry about the here and now not potential summer transfer horseshit
