I can't recall Plovdiv and Macedonians, but wasn't at least one of those an absolute stunner too?

We didn't concede against Orient.....

Plovdiv was a header (I think) off of a flick on from a corner. Not 100% if it was scored with a header or foot but the goal came from a corner.

I think we’ve actually improved a lot defensively since the lockdown, Lloris is not exposed like he was before and most matches he has almost nothing to do. I don’t remember him making a meaningful save in the last 3 PL matches. The move to a 433 has given us a much better balance and stopped those terrible overloads we used to have on transitions.

Now we have an issue with set pieces and crosses but that is not hard to fix. Both against Everton and West Ham we conceded because our defenders just didn’t jump. They didn’t get outmuscled or make positioning errors, they were right where they should be and just didn’t do anything. If our players don’t know how to jump then we are in big trouble, but they do. They are just prone to falling asleep. The lack of fans makes it very easy to lose concentration which is why is many of these shit goals are happening across the league. We have to get used to it quickly.

Sissoko shouldn’t need a wall of fans shouting “AWAY” to know that he has to jump towards the ball.

Yes, but it's the personnel too. A top quality CB would make all the difference.

Liverpool's defence was transformed with VVD. I suspect we are a Skriniar short of title contending, but maybe Mourinho can still hustle us pretty close.

Rodon might not be ready to start, but he should be useful to bring on late in the game to counter the aerial stuff.

We conceded in every match this season, including Plovdiv, Macedonian Farmers and Haifa. Yes, it's happening every game.
Macedonia top corner from 20 yards, one of the Haifa goals was a beautiful 25 yard curler into the corner the other was a daft penalty given for handball against Doherty.

We are not getting torn apart like we used to

Open play wise, we have been getting better at defending. The issue clearly is defending set piece, especially aerially, which individual ability is as important as tactic. We lack good especially dominant header. We can't do man to man marking well since opposition would outnumber us with their aerial threat targets during set piece.

It's misleading that everyone is criticizing Dier for Everton goal. Dier was supposed to cover a zone that contains Calvert Lewis and Michael Keane, 2 serious threat. 2 vs 1 against through out. Not like what we saw at the end that Calvert Lewis taking on our 2 CBs. Calvert-Lewis should be Toby's man. Dier reacted well to pick up Calvert-Lewis but he was already at disadvantage. That's one heck of a whip, always favoring attacker over defender. May question Dier not attempt to jump, but jumping then would make no difference. Running toward our goal and jumping is difficult to get elevated especially when the ball is behind you.

Calvert Lewis made a straight run, nothing special or man marking mistake from our player. It's the lack of individual ability that forces our set piece defensive line spread so thin having to to worry about near post and far post area. As it played out, even Richarlison got free, with Toby completely got occupying by him to free up Calvert Lewis. Similar thing happened with Davies got pulled out of the equation by Mina who wrestled Sissoko.

Poch team building is clearly flawed, which even at our bets under him, we always had this Achilles' heel in our game. It gets to the point that even when we rival other team on the attack, and play well overall. One a few moment cost us not just the whole game, but even the season. The solution should be paying to get a more capable header into the team, and CV & Rodon may be the first step helping the situation.

Do you think part of the not jumping is because defender are shit scared of Jumping and giving away a penalty?

Sanchez looked afraid from minute 1. I don't think he enjoyed the battle with Antonio and it showed. He lacks consistency and also dont know why he was played on the left instead of alderweireld?

Our goals conceded are not from open play. Its the lack of concentration and bravery from set pieces. All sissoko had to do was compete in the air. Didnt do it. Its a lack of bravery to go win a header and take the knock if need be to stop a goal. You can set up as much as ye want but if your not willing to put the head to it its a waste of time. As the saying goes you have to want it

Problem with that logic is, with our injury record, if every player 'wanted it' too much, they'd all be sidelined with concussion, and we'd be down to the bare bones for the 'busy Christmas schedule'TM Sky Sports!!
