Those 77-78 and 78-79 seasons there are very few firms that could live with Spurs.
Yeah 1980 and 1982 we had a huge game as firm also, and West Ham never did what we did in Europe either. They just had London i suppose but we were way more known and respected outside. The mob we had waiting for the 657 in 84 at WHL was also impressive to, smashed them all over as they came out the station, at the time supposed to be best in the country. Same year home to Man Utd also, destroyed them on the High Road. The game after Belgium where they laid the wreath., they got terrorized after

Can't argue with that. Mid 70s to mid 80s we were certainly up there with the best.

I knew a few of their old skinhead mob and the black ICF lot through music .. ( actually have a story of a Jam concert in Paris 81 where 3 game as Spurs and myself went on a coach full of very game East London Mods and bods who were all West Ham, including one Southbank face to see the Jam and it was carnage, we battled PSG skins day and night who came to greet us and smashed them to pieces, after a long battle on the metro and the centre of Paris a tale for another time) ..

And they all thought we Spurs were a right handful and definitely can have our day but they all wreckon they had made their minds up to be number one in London and that was there unifying war cry and only mission. Add in their loose use of craft tools at games, I think the Woolwich bod who got killed by the ICF in 82 at Finsbury Park really put doubt in some minds, plus the violent home visits by their lot who thought they were the Krays also and yes they were well organized which gave them the edge but overall there's something in that working class East End blood they were hard pyscho wanna be gangster mutherfuckers and the only lot that had something over us back then. But saying that we still had results over them 70s in their end twice and not budged and 80 took it to them all night at theirs, never a back step, fought them at testimonial and in the Shelf we never ever ran from them even when they had bigger numbers. And up north we were way better, they were top dog in London agreed back them but not outside we did way more. I think East Ham 83 also went a bit far to say the least. So I'd say early 80s they had an edge over us. Always said they were our main enemy off the field.

Had a mate who was on the receiving end of some of them nawty midweek home visits, they definately took it to far with that and they always flashed the silver but they were the best organised and tightest mob in London, where as we had little mobs all over and were definately better up north. Anyone remember the time we had a meet at the Corner Pin ( early kick off ) i think and they turned up and infiltrated us, that was chaos

My main memories of home games against the hammers is the one early in the season,81/82 season( i think), they were newly promoted ,David Cross scored 4.They brought a lot that night. The youth cup final, they were scum that night. And Ray Clemence testimonial in 1990.That was a lively evening...

Oh and the bank episode.

The problem with WHU is that unlike every other club, they refuse to admit when they had a bad day at the office. They still like to promote the 30, 40, 50 years undefeated myth. I actually think that tarnishes their reputation.

West ham did have the numbers with the skinhead within scene,at that time. Warrior sq estate in Manor Park could boast a 200 plus on a good day,on their own.I got to know several of the mob that followed WH and the Cockney rejects. They were a mixed bunch of skinheads, mods proto casuals etc. Most got in to the Casual scene in a big way. This was years later i became friendly with them
One of the mods on the coach wasn't a fellow called Williams was it? He was a main face among the mods that side of town from the early 80s onwards.
The well known black ICF fella CP got me and 3 other mates tickets for a rejects gig when they played that mecca of popular music Barking Workingmans club, which is actually in Canning Town.I thanked him on the night ,and he replied "well i couldn't leave west ham boys outside could i?"... All 4 of us were Spurs, but as i was surrounded by a good 200 of their finest i thought i'd let his little mistake go...

Thing is with us is that a load of our fans seem to lord it over Woolwich and Chelsea who haven’t had a presence down Tottenham for years but then when it comes to West Ham, the same ones, don’t want to know or get West Ham flu.

They did have a huge mob of skins back then from Eseex as well, Dagenham and Tilbury alone had a huge mob, most of the skins in Southend bank holidays we're all West Ham, 100 s and 100s and 100s of them, Sham Army etc. The 81 coach to Paris was mix of East London Essex Mods from all over that manor Romford, Rainham, Chigwell, Barking etc all we're there for the ruckus. The year before 1980 at a Jam concert same local PSG skins had kicked the shit out of the normal Mod English Jam fans there including their mates and Weller hung a Union Jack on the microphone as he watched his travelling support get terrorized to Eton Rifles so we went with intent of some serious London payback and we delivered. It was organized from East London we all knew each other from 60s Soul clubs in Soho 100 club, Beat Route ,Albany etc and bank holidays at the time, we was mates outside of football, into the ska two tone, Mod skin scene. The mod Hammer face was a big geezer called Bob who was friends with the Rejects, Southbank chicken run lot, Same circles.

As you say some of those Mods became ICF casuals, it murged. In all fairness the East London huns fought like fuck against a very tooled up french mob and I remember ICF and East London and WH cries going up in the battles and me my 3 mates would all look at each other then look at them shake our heads and be like nah we are Tottenham and we made that known to our french friends as well, which brought some smiles and in all honesty maybe the only time we all fought on the same side and got along. It wasn't about football that day.

When we arrived in Paris we posted up in a Brasserie started drinking not causing any bother to anyone then like the Warriors it began, an old broken up Renault full of French skins parked outside the bar and they had painted Die English Pigs on their car , they just stood by their car staring us out carrying bats and clubs lol, taunting us, then as time went on more of them came until they had a firm 40 or so tooled up skins. Then they started throwing bottles at us, and the bar windows came through, and they came towards us, then the cry went up and everything came off the walls, mirrors, bar stools, chairs, glasses , tables, an ornamental scythe and we steamed into them they stood for a minute but after their leader found himself wearing a bar stool with some big West Ham geezer stomping his head in yelling you want some , they scattered, he had his bird with him as well, SMH, we ran them into the metro bashing them as we went and over turned their car and set it on fire, this was lunchtime in the middle of Paris. Then they came back and we steamed them again and we ran them again into the metro, it all went off in the metro for over an hour back and forth. I vividly remember one skin swinging numchaks on the metro stairs at us and we couldnt get up near him to get him , then one West Ham geezer came up behind him with a coke can twisted in half, he stuck the cans like headphones into this skins ears and twisted them around , he dropped the numchaks went to the ground screaming and we kicked the shit out of him.

Weller looked out during the show and smiled as he saw us lot all standing in front of him with a huge empty circle around us and no French skins in the venue this year. After the armed riot police rounded us up and escorted our coach to Calais and put us on a ferry. Mental times. Not really football but Spurs were there. Not glamorizing it but it happened.

That sounds like Bob B. Don't know the fella but have a few mutual friends of his.
Tilbury had huge mob back them, and a very lively one at that. Good lads an all.
Have you seen the madness film "take it or leave it" ? Some of the Tilbury are in that. They playe the LGS(Ladbroke grove skins) in the gig scene at the Acklam hall. The big bald lump in the Donkey jacket is Spurs.
You sound like you'd probably know this anyway.
Think we may have a few mutual acquaintances
Have a good un mate.

Yeah it's been a while mate but yeah we probably know some of the same people for sure. The mod geezer B was a big bloke from Stratford if memory serves me. I never got into Madness mainly as they were all Chelsea but l know the scene and film, yes the geezer in the signature Spurs Donkey Jacket 👊possessed one myself back in the day with a little tin THFC badge. Those were the days. On the subject of West London Acklam Hall etc do you remember the trip to the Grove in 82 after QPR in the FA Cup final where every West London skin and their mom turned out to greet us?
