The stand is actually too big to get new songs going. Our repertoire used to be decent but it is appalling now. You have to go to away matches to hear anything other than the 4-5 usual chants.
Maybe it's time we just accepted it. All give our tickets to our (grand)kids and let them see what they can do. I take my daughters (as you know) and they love a sing song. But I know there will be inhibition through standing with a parent. Multiply that by the thousands and you will get a huge degredation in atmosphere. But there's no way my kids can afford even child tickets regularly.

If I was a kid now I doubt I would go to matches. We used to go everywhere mob handed, no parents around etc.....now....you would have to stand next to some moany cunt who would keep tutting at you. Let alone the price and draconian policing/Stewarding

Exactly, and a throng of youngsters all togther would increase the chance of that loudness/rowdiness etc.
They are also the ones who bring the new songs. Another result of the ageing customer base if you ask me. Has there ever been a time when new song output has been so poor?

When I ventured to the southstand I heard someone singing a song about Conte liking Moretti and spaghetti but didn't catch on.

Theres a guy in my area in the Paxton who sings that alone, but he disappears around halftime most games. I think he tries to move to the South to look for a spare seat.

Wonder if it was him?
On Sunday I was looking from my seat up in the East upper to see if there were pockets in the west lower to sneak into. It could have saved 10-15 minutes getting home if i committed to it lol

It's not the same for everyone, but I'd have been my loudest in my 20's but could never afford to go back then.
Now I'm in my 40's and money isn't an issue, I'm less inclined to be loud.

I'm in the same age bracket as you and I'm a fuck of a to more loud now than I was then. More pent up anger ;)

But I won't boo, not going to add to the negativity around the club and in the stadium, which people seem to revel in by the way. I see supporters getting more excited with moaning than singing.

One more thing.....moving the 'hard-core' fans as far away from the away supporters as they could was a huge mistake.
It's Levys dream of making everything safe and family friendly. I wonder if he will get away with it, and tomorrows fans will be the kind that like that sort of thing. Like how people go to the cinema to enjoy a film with no tribalism? Kum By Yar football. I think football provides a outlet in peacetime for men to let off aggression. It's ironic that Baddiel constantly mentions the war and nazis, ignoring the fact that being cunts in a controlled manner is a very good way of averting the thing he fears most.

MASSIVE mistake. I would bet my mortgage on the south being louder if the away fans were near it.
I don't even understand why they put them in the North as every time I get off at Seven Sisters, they're being escorted down the highroad from there. Surely getting them in nearest and quickest makes sense.

I'll be at Wealdstone this evening, it's almost always the 20ish olds who start the singing/chanting.

The away fans can and do get the singing going. assuming most of them go to the Home matches as well but they are scattered around the stadium and it does not work. When you just queued up and went in a group of mates could stand together and whilst I did not go with a group of mates I went and joined other young noisy supporters on the shelf.
It would take major reorganisation to get the away supporters all together in the South stand and it just will not happen.

The biggest death knell to me is that you cant stand(or even sit) next to the group you travelled to the game with. If all my old lot go to a game the same day(Norwich ,before xmas the last time) we are in all four corners of the ground. Kids will never that sense of togetherness we had.Not in the prem anyway

Little confused so you agree with me? The point was in the periods when we had discontentment and booing or songs about getting our team back the football was chronic as I said. I think many of us who go to games can cope with losing but not without actually attempting to play front foot soccer. Errors are a bellwether of confidence so are often tied to form. I think the game going fans are worn down with Jose Nuno and now Conte playing hugely reactive football. It's a real problem now.
I’m confused too mate - it’s happening more regularly these days! I thought you meant we played better football in the nineties and I jus can’t remember it (from mid nineties anyway).

I remember seeing a study published on speed of attack, several years ago when we weren't shit, that demonstrated the correlation between speed of attack and odds of scoring. At the time we were way on up there, 2nd or 3rd.

Before peak Poch and after, we've never really been good at that, but that rapid attack style was at the heart of Harry's success as well.

I think we've been ruined by the mandate of CL football. A better safe than sorry approach has crept in, and yet half the time we fuck that up anyway.

Flying wingbacks and speed. That's what we need back, results be damned. And we're liable to surprise ourselves, at that.

I'm afraid to say, this is the nail on the head as far as atmosphere goes. It matters not what the likes of me, Nutter-Naylor Nutter-Naylor , WookieD WookieD etc. etc. think we add to the atmosphere. What it needs is hundreds of like minded young people to be able to stand together. Without it, the "South Stand White Wall of Noise" is never going to happen. And with £70 a pop tickets it's a non-starter. We would need an 18-25 price equivalent to that of a childs ticket in price for there to be any chance of it happening. And for the majority of the South Lower to be open (or maybe even exclusive to) that demographic. As we are all aware, football at the top level has changed.

It's not coming back.

I can't see a way to get the crowd noise and atmosphere that that stadium deserves.

Years ago I bought up singing sections in Dutch football that encourage rowdiness and you effectively don’t go there with kids / know you are there to make noise.

Got told was not an English way of doing things.

Problem is football now has become like going to the theatre. It was always entertainment, the working class letting off steam. Now it’s more aimed at the middle class spending a few hundred quid on a game. But that changes the atmosphere.
Pint and a piss on the terraces replaced with a glass of Chablis and pizza in your seat. Time moves on.

And what I found noticeable at the Brighton game was the demographic was undoubtedly younger in that area.
But the guys starting songs around me were all older and clearly long going match day fans.
Problem is the younger fans can’t get to as many games as we used to when I was a teenager. So don’t know the songs and also don’t get to congregate together like we used to.

Maybe losing a load of ST holders won’t be such a bad thing if they then add in a lower pricing rate for under 25s to encourage the next generation of fans. Changing of the guard and all that.

If pinhead had any vision he would have ensured the south stand was along those lines and from a marketers perspective, it creates demand similar to Dortmund. The shine of the new ground is gone this season so he needs to think creatively and fast to sell tickets next season
