Mason does look shot. I don't think he **scrambles for cover** is starting X1 material. Tries his bollocks off to be fair but that's not enough on its own. We need a power house alongside Bentaleb.

We always try and beat teams like City, Woolwich and United by playing better than them though, no way would we line up like Burnley or Palace ... 9 behind the ball hope to nick one on the break.
You are absolutely right. Mason said exactly the same thing yesterday.
He said: “City knew how to shut out the game and this is something we have to learn quickly for next season because we have got a young team and we need to learn how to play bad and win games,” said Mason. “First and foremost we want to win games, play attractive football and score goals. But there are times when maybe we’ve been a bit naive at times.”

I heard a very interesting thing on Sunday morning when I heard a manager say that when they were playing Chelski they were 2-0 down very quickly but Chelski just couldn't score any more goals despite tearing them a new areshole. They were dominating the game and did not look like losing. After 70 mins he heard Mourinho say, 'that's it, we are not going to get more,' and brought on subs & shut out the game. He wasn't going to take the chance of the opposition nicking one and a jittery last 20 and maybe getting a draw, or win! ( sound familiar )
Against us he made sure Kane would not have another great time by playing 5 defenders and sticking Cahill on him.

Funnily enough the game we all say was a great performance...Woolwich away, we basically defended well as a team and tried to counter, leaving the onus on them as a home team to break us down. They were very lucky to get a point.
I remind some of the praise Mason got in that game.

Most teams who we are a 'class' above would not play us at our own game.

We have played with one up top because Poch prefers that system.

We have dropped the other two strikers from all activity for 6 months because Poch prefers that system.

We have dropped an excellent CM because Poch prefers that system.

So yesterday Poch goes with 3 strikers up top and one AM to save the game.

I am yet to be convinced Poch can change it up for the better.
If we qualified for CL Id be delighted.

We´ll see next year if he can deliver his target and improve on Tim and AVB.
Are you seriously saying that Moussa Dembele is an excellent attacking midfielder?
Please give the facts to back that statement up. This was the man who was going to be the next to go to Real Madrid. When you mention Dembele you invariably hear the words ' potential, unused & frustrating' I somehow don't think Moussa will ever start beating players in the final third, assisting or scoring more than 3 league goals a season. He's stuck in his ways and unable to change.
Since he's been with us he's underperformed or been injured. He usually cannot last 90 mins.
He also cost as much as Paulinho and has given us 3 league goals and 5 assists in 3 seasons. Nobody has really called him a waste of money.
Paulinho has done better with goals, so has Chadli, and Lamela has been more of an asset setting up goals.
Sorry, but we need AM's who can create & score goals, we have to many midfielders in the squad who are goal shy and uncreative.
By all means play Moussa instead of Bentaleb. He's strong on the ball, wins a tackle and will play a simple ball.
We just don't need another C midfielder who will not get into the box, cant pass and move, does not create enough and is goal shy.
Or are you talking about Andros Townsend?

The manager really cannot win. If he rotates the squad each week he will be accused of tinkering and not playing a settled team, you know the kind of settled team Chavs have been lauded for.
If he picks the same team each week he will be accused of not using the other players.
Yet there are the COC, FA, EL and EPL. He used different teams for that and was accused of not taking some seriously because he never picked the same strongest team he did in the EPL?
We will probably finish 6th, no different from last year despite getting to a final and using the 'shittiest players'. We are 6th because we have a squad that is capable of that. Let's not try and kid ourselves that AVB, TS and now MP have all failed to get the best out of these 'world class' players we have.

Dembele in for Mason and we are a more solid squad. He's strong, great control and makes thoughtful passes. He add stability to the midfield that is needed desperately.
Bentaleb/Dembele = formidable

Would almost take Townsend over Lamela...........almost.

Thats a long post. Odd how you ignored the main part of my gripe.

The sudden and inexplicable use if playing strikers and one AM.

Jesus Sammy - your gripes have a main part?
they all seem solid, 100% to the core, from first - to full stop.
:)

I have one main gripe and most of our problems boil down to the misuse of the squad.
Rotation and poor meaningless subs fall under that.

As does playing three strikers and one AM....two of the strikers the manager "doesnt trust"....but he thought they could do a job against City, in a formation we have never played before, after 4 months on the bench)

But join the club and avoid admitting it was an absurd, desperate and nonsensical way to try and get back into the game.

Eriksen had a bad game, subed with Paulinho, Soldado on because we wanted two strikers to try to get back into the game. In the 85min Ade was subed on as a last desperate attempt to get a goal. Can you please clarify whats so "absurd" and "nonsensical" ?

If our team has too many forward players, who gets the ball back and passes it to them?

Ops, It was Soldado on for Eriksen.

We did play better after Soldado (and Paulinho) came on. In the last 30min Kane was alone with Hart, Soldado had a blocked shot, Paulinho one header and a dangerous shot, Lamela had a good chance(from Rose's cross).

everyone's an expert eh?
The problems - for you, boil down to the fact that the manager isn't managing the club to your taste, and so you believe him to be sub standard.

"doesn't trust" - so now you're inventing sticks to beat him with. Its simpler than that Sammy, he picks a team and tactics according to his way of doing things, using players he believes are most likely to achieve it. Until you get employed by him as a trusted part of his entourage you have to watch like the rest of us, and your opinions are no more valuable than anyone else's.

You berate him for having no plan B - and then when he employs one you berate him for doing so.

Its kind of funny to watch. Well it would be if it wasn't a little bit sad.

The real truth is that we got beaten 1-0 by a team that cost a massive amount of petro dollars to assemble and another fortune to salary. I thought that given the disparity it was a reasonable and lively showing. If chances like Mason and Kane had, had fallen to Aguero - it would have been 3-0, in all likelihood. That was the difference between the 2 teams Sammy, quality of players.
