TROY Parrott could be out for two months with the ankle injury he suffered against Burnley last week.

Millwall should get a better idea of the timeline of his recovery later this week.

“We’re still waiting on him potentially seeing a specialist and [we’re] speaking to Tottenham’s physios. We’re waiting on the outcome of that,” Millwall boss Gary Rowett said.

“I don’t want to be too definitive. We’re not talking about a really, really serious one, but I think it’s going to be a little more than two or three weeks.

“I think the initial prognosis is something like six to eight weeks but that’s just a bit of a guess. Hopefully we can be a bit more definitive in a day or two.”

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has revealed why he was happy to let Tottenham take control of Troy Parrott’s recovery from ankle ligament damage.

The 18-year-old striker is on a season-long loan at The Den but picked up an injury on his debut last month in an EFL Cup defeat to Burnley.

Parrott is due to link back up with Millwall today.

Rowett said: “After the initial scan, when we knew it was around a six-week injury, we had a chat with Troy, the physio and medical department. We all felt it was probably best he goes back to Tottenham because of their facilities and manpower.

“They could almost give him one-to-one attention. It is more important he comes back in a position that he at least limits his chances of being re-injured.

“We’re probably looking at the next international break for when he will realistically be back, another seven or eight games down the line. That will give him a window to have a couple of friendlies and up his match fitness.

“It will be very nice to have him back because some of our plans revolved around Troy and the characteristics that he’d bring to the team – particularly in a 5-2-3 formation.”

Parrott missed the start of the campaign due to a quad strain.

Gary Rowett - "Ireland have got two games and they’ve said they agree it’s probably sensible if he doesn’t play more than 45 minutes in either of the games.”

“We hope if he can get through whatever he can get through in terms of minutes and gets through training over there that he’ll come back in a position to be involved."

“Whether he starts early on [for Millwall] will be dependent on how he gets on for Ireland. He’s not played much football and we don’t want to rush him."

“But it would be nice to have him available in games like this where you just need something to open the game up.”
