I think we need more pace and width.
I love Dele and Eriksen, but they are not "wide" players by any means.
Pool just sit Salah and Mane between the opp outside FB and CB, and shoot balls over the top to them all day long- and it works! They get in behind the defense with pace down the wings, and create buckets of easy chances on cutback and cross-goal passes. Our attack by contrast is very labored, lots of playing it around the back, corralling the opposition deep into their own half, where we often have to settle for a speculative cross or long-shot, if we don't turn over possession on the edge of the box first.

I guess the back 3 worked today until late on when it didn't, but, maybe the real play today was to play 4-2-3-1 and then go to a back 3 to see off a late charge? Poch should mull that one over. I know we were calling to play on the counter, but going back 3 against Brum is giving them way, way too much credit...

Lamela as a starter is honestly a joke- guy is our worst attacker right now, he's a defensive sub. Son or Moura would have been far, far better. Same with Llorente- guy hasn't played for us in weeks or maybe even months. Today was not a day to give him late minutes.

It's brutal that we are in this position now. Team needs to have a good look at itself in the mirror, and get ready for the two remaining must-win games now. Failure to secure CL football would be DISASTROUS for us.

I like to compare our attacking play and Liverpool's with different types of war strategies. Liverpool is essentially Blitzkrieg. Rushing the opposition and scoring before they truly have a chance to collect themselves. We are more comparable to an old Roman legion marching into war or siege warfare. Slower, more plodding and once we break through we score (and often more than once). But it is always a struggle to break through
 
Some things are becoming very obvious now. We desperately need a second striker. We also need Poch to man up and bench Kane. Fuck the golden boot

We had Son step in for Kane while he was injured and had a lot of success with that actually. I think what we need is to be able to keep a second striker option in form, and have confidence in them to step in for Kane when needed.

I agree though, the whole golden boot chase has really fucked up Kane's game lately. Returning from injury too early, forcing his way into the starting lineup (hard to fault Poch or Kane for this really, but somebody should have the foresight to see that this was going too far too fast), giving him a full 90 when he wasn't fit enough to give 100% for whole 90.

We can still make it all right though by winning these last two games and putting this miserable spell of form to bed. Saving ourselves for the world cup be damned! That's a one and a half month affair, while club football is a year-in, year-out marriage. Players will feel right miserable next year if they think they can mail it in already on this season.
 
We are embarrassing.

So pathetic it is unbelievable.

And the issue? Not one player who can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and inspire us.

Huge 8 days ahead for the whole club.

We are showing exactly why we have a flaky tag.

No one will join us. We can't attract one because they won't want to sit on the bench.

Or, more likely, we're just too fucking cheapskate to go out and spend the fucking money on someone not only capable of warming the bench but challenging Harry Kane for his fuckin place and keeping him on his friggin toes.
We've been crying out for someone for years, instead we get the useless cheap lump Llorente and a fuckin cheese room

West brom were dug in like the French on the eve of WWII- we needed a blitzkrieg option to crack open shit bus parkers like them.

Well we bottled a winning position against Juve in the Champions league.
Bottled a winning position against West Ham in the league cup.
Bottled a winning position against United in the FA cup.
And doing our best to complete the biggest bottle job of all time in the premier league.
Something, somewhere, aint right at this club
 
we needed to give more, play as though we mean it, not just gesture our intentions . We are like the boxer who dances and shuffles, grins showing his gun sheild then gets sucker punched and ends up on his arse. We need to dig deeper becuse not getting top 4 , new stadium and then the embarrassment could hurt us for a long time.

So basically saying “play Toby and Rose because they are far superior” for months on end is ok........but when they play, and we are just as fucking shit, it’s irrelevant.

Would it be irrelevant if we played well and won? No, no John I think it would be very relevant indeed.....wouldn’t it. Yeeeesss

And why shouldn’t I blame them? Toby went missing for the corner and Rose scored an own goal.
Can we blame Tripper when it’s his fault? Yes John. Yes we can.
