Player Wilson Odobert

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Decent debut, obviously needed a player of his profile.

Refreshing having a player who wants the ball and alleviates pressure off the defence.

As with all young, quick, dribbly wingy types, end product needs work, but definitely offers us a different dynamic- someone who can actually dribble past the defender and then cut back or zip it across is a threat we did not have on either side, and he did that 2/3 times. It forces the oppo to defend a different way.

Another one of these for the other side - preferably a bit further down the development line and we’ll be cooking.

Excellent first half. Few errors in the second but that is to be expected.

Promising young player. Refreshing to see someone try and take his man on.

Pretty strong debut for a 19 year old with only a couple of training sessions under his belt. Took the cautious option a couple times today which I bet he won’t be doing in a couple months.

You can see the obvious role for him in the team. At worst he’s a really good option off the bench to run at tired legs.

Really impressive beginning to the game. Faded somewhat after about 20 min but a part of that was Everton wising up and helping out their youngster FB.

I really appreciated the contribution toward the second goal, if it can be called that. He closed down his man on the touch line and challenged for the ball leading to the throw in that eventually went to Pickford and into the back of the net.

So many times I get frustrated with our “press” simply just running near their man but not affecting anything. They get close enough for the player to make a comfortable pass away. It’s really half-assed a lot. But Odobert was into his man and its little things like that that will endear him to the fans.

Thought he was great. I know a lot of it was simply control the ball and retain possession but that is what our current wingers aren’t very good at, if he had 10-12 moments of just keeping the ball we’d have lost it 3-4 times and given away counter attacks with other wingers.

I don’t mean that as a major dig at Son, Werner or Johnson but even when looked at positively they are high risk players who try tricks and flicks because they want to force the issue and lose the ball a lot. We can’t have 2 wingers in the team on both sides who constantly lose the ball. Its to much work for our team defending.

Odobert simply being good at controlling the ball, pressing the defender and linking with players near him gives our attack much better balance and if he can consistently beat the defender then it could really make our attack better.

I thought he was good and he’s got a bright future ahead. He got a bit throttled later so the toffees just closed in on him, but at least he was at least pushing forwards and taking players on. If we had someone doing the same on the other side we’d be laughing.

His first touch at times was excellent. Just killed the ball dead.

We all knew getting a winger of his profile would change the dynamic of our attack and I think we honestly saw that today.

Next step is get Solanke up top. Son on the left and Odobert replacing Johnson on the right.

His touch and his physicality are much better than what we have. Son is amazing but his first touch is often dodgy as fuck, Johnson not much better. Just to have a winger who is good at controlling the ball, running the full back and being strong enough to hold on to the ball is really useful.
