Player Wilson Odobert

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's all well and good saying 'yeah but all wide players numbers' are down' but the fact of the matter is Odobert has 1 league goal and 2 assists for us in 40 league appearances. That's simply not enough.

A solid but unspectacular player like Tavernier at Bournemouth consistently gets around 10 combined league goals and assists per season - that's the minimum we should be expecting from our wide players.

I don't even think Odobert is shit. I think he's got absolutely bags of potential and might be a top player one day, but he was a player we should've bought and loaned out, not expected to provide instant impact in the first 11. I don't think even a club like Bournemouth or Brighton would've put as much reliance on a 19 year old signing like Odobert as we have, and we're the supposed big club with CL aspirations.

And when Bournemouth do bring in a 19 year old like Rayan he's already got 3 goals and 2 assists in 11 appearances, so clearly better scouting.

I dont think we were ever serious champions league contenders with Ange and Frank in charge.

Tavernier is 27 and only once hit 10 G/As in a Premier league season.....this season.

Odobert is going to go on to be a fine player

Way to miss the point.

Are we a club with CL aspirations? Obviously yes - given the club's resources we should be aiming for top 4/5 every season and CL qualification is always a target.

I said 'around 10' combined goals and assists - he's got 9 in two previous seasons and could easily end up on 10+ this season. That's just nit-picking.

And yeah, he's 27. So what? Maybe we should've signed a player in their mid-20s with proven output rather than another teenager with potential?

I don't even disagree that Odobert may well be a fine player - but 2 years ago he was not the winger we needed and we've suffered as a result.

I didn't miss the point, having Ange or Frank in charge, proved that despite our aspirations we weren't good enough....i just dont look at Odobert as a fault of that.

Maddison, Kulu and Kudus being injured

Richarlison and Muani not being good enough, these are bigger factors for me.

I think Odobert has a bright future.

I'm not blaming Odobert or saying he doesn't have a bright future. I just think he was the wrong signing given our needs at the time.

Ange was desperate for proven experience and we were going into a season with European football. 1 or 2 teenagers might've been manageable, but buying 3 for the first team was playing with fire. And we all know the outcome.
