I dont follow Utd with any real interest, but was of the impression he had barely played, and when he had he was shoved out wide.

Amazes me a player of his talent gets compromised for a donkey like Cleverley

Or Valencia, or Young, or Nani. And then you got Zaha, with more than a chip on his shoulder, desperate to play...would probably give it his all (even if his "talent" may not be there) and he cant even get a reserves game in.

Juan Mata: Manchester United bid £35m for Chelsea midfielder

Manchester United have made a bid in the region of £35m for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata.

Mata, 25, has been linked with a move from Stamford Bridge having struggled to hold down a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho.

United deny making an official offer, but an initial bid has been tabled through intermediaries acting on behalf of the Premier League champions.

Mata did not train with Chelsea's first team on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Chelsea insisted that Mata, who has been voted the club's player of the year two seasons in a row, was not for sale.

But the playmaker, who was part of the Spain squad which won the World Cup in 2010 and European Championship in 2012, has been substituted in nine of his 13 Premier League appearances for the Blues this season, prompting speculation other clubs could bid for him in the January transfer window.

The initial offer is likely to be rejected with Chelsea holding out for as much money as possible with more than a week to go until the transfer window closes.

However, United are prepared to pay a premium for top players on David Moyes's list of targets if it means securing them now rather than waiting until the summer.

Chelsea paid £23.5m to sign Mata from Valencia in 2011. The former Real Madrid youth player had impressed during four seasons with the Spanish club and began life in England by scoring 13 goals in his debut season as Chelsea won the FA Cup and Champions League.

He followed it up with 20 goals in the 2012/13 season as Chelsea lifted the Europa League under Rafa Benitez but, since Mourinho returned for his second spell at the club, Mata has seen his playing time limited.

Mourinho, 50, said last week that whilst he understood it was "hard" for Mata to sit on the bench, the Spaniard still had a "big role" to play at the club.

he wants to improve them because they have played united twice already but they still have to play city and the scum so by improving them he improves there chances of there closest rivals dropping points..

Still think united are out of the top 4 fight myself. but they will up there game against team like city and scum regardless of if they get mata.

40 mill Mata or 38 quid Carroll?

Get Redknapp to put TC into a cab from Loftus Rd W14 to Tottenham High Rd N17 and have DL waiting outside with 2 £20 notes to pay the Cabbie!

That would be the better investment!

COYS!!

You are bang on there, fella.

Mourinho knows exactly what he's doing. Selling an unwanted star to the only "rival" he doesn't have to play again this season.

José is an arsehole. Unfortunately, he is very good at it.

If he wanted to do that he would loan Mata to United. He is trying to sell Mata, his best player, to United. Mata will be at United for a lot longer than half a season which would hurt Chelsea a lot more in the long run than it helps him for a few months this season. No way will Mata be sold to United, although i didn't see it possible that Mata would be basically outcasted by Mourinho.
