Anyone with a single shred of sence could see VdV had enough time to launch the ball. Instead of launching it first time, he tried to drag and cover the ball and lost it.
Desperation to pin everything on Xavi is insane.

But from my seat, it felt like a totally avoidable team catastrophe where one player after another had the opportunity to fix the developing problem and didn't.
I think it all falls back on the coach as we've no defined style of play on the ball.
We launch is so much that whenever we try to play it around, players seem shocked and caught off guard when they receive a pass. It's like none of them are prepared for a pass. They are always pointing at someone else or saying give it to him or kick it long. Our possession game at home is just a total shambles.
Their goal came from 3 different players receiving a pass that they didn't want! The alternative is just to kick it long and give it back to them which is what we did for 90% of the game..
And play who?
The rest have been shit too, just not creative players, or injured.
Sarr? He is invisible or chasing shadows most of the time.
Bergvall? He is starting most of the time.
Bentancur? Shadow of his former self, with zero creativity.

I totally agree that he needs to get his finger out his arse, but I think there’s a lot more chance of it happening with Xavi than there ever was with Ndombele. Tanguy’s attitude was fucking atrocious, he came here, got given a massive wage on a 6-year deal and thought he’d made it. 3 top managers in Poch, Jose and Conte couldn’t even get him to make an effort.
That’s not the issue with Xavi, there’s clearly nothing wrong with his attitude, he’s struggling to adapt to the league, and his confidence is shot. That can be fixed. He ain’t the first player that’s struggled initially after coming here, Son being the prime example.
We definitely could’ve done with someone that was ready to hit the ground running, but we were running out of options at the end of the window in that position. Grealish is really the only other 10 we could’ve signed at that point that would’ve made an impact quickly.
Time will tell with Xavi. I’m as frustrated with him as anybody, but I ain’t writing him off yet.

It can, but the way we're playing at the moment it's not likely to happen any time soon, we just don't give the forward players any kind of platform to build up a head of steam.
The longer it goes on like this the more you end up thinking just sod it, sacrifice any attempts at defensive solidity because we're playing these plodders in midfield and showing no forward ambition but it's not even making us watertight at the back anyway.
The problem is though, the best platform to build a good attack from is a controlled and drilled backline, lest you end up with the calamity we saw under Ange.
There just needs to be a spark from somewhere, we could do with Xavi waking up one day and just grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck and giving the whole team a boost, but he seems to need the team to get that boost in order for him to be able to go and grab the game... It's a case of what's going to come first, the chicken or the egg, or just as likely for us, neither will materialise.
