Is the coach telling him to pass the ball out of play multiple times and get sent off?
Let's be honest: We're not going to sign many 22 year olds with higher profile / upside than his. We could alter our modus operandi significantly to direct most of our attention to established players in the 26-30 range instead, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Barring a change in the ownership this youth project, in some shape or form, will go on for the next few years. These suggestions of getting rid of him should be made with this background in mind.

He’s not in good form but don’t think we’re playing football that’s attacking or about controlling possession. When xavi gets the ball there is generally fuck all on for him. The teams is in poor form and risk taking is a)discouraged b)going to be heavily scrutinised.
We’ve got a coach that loves a long throw and expects to be out of possession, moves pieces around a board and is risk averse.
It wasn’t a sending off - yellow totally fine - but he was pressing and trying to be aggressive.

When do his performances get him dropped. I want him to succeed so much but he needs taking out of the firing line. Msybe this break will do him good.
No, that’s him adjusting to the pace of the Prem with very few touches.
It’s like anything you need to learn and adjust to, it takes good reps and those reps need to be at game speed.
He will adjust under Frank but it will take longer because we don’t play to use the ball intelligently, we look to robotically spam it forward down the flanks as soon as we get it. That results in less touches and less decisions.
He should be subbing as CAM/LW in bigger games, and playing as CAM/CM when we play lower quality opposition. That'd give him a bit more time and space to develop. Right now he's just not ready to face the top 6 type squads in the Prem...
The way Maresca works if Xavi had gone to the Chavs he would be out on loan somewhere in Europe or training with the U21s now.

I think it is, but it’s also got a lot to do with how we play too. He did one for Cherki and it looked pretty healthy in the PL.
Xavi is clearly a connector type player and final action guy that wants to control the offense.
Hes struggling to adjust to the pace and physicality but we still win more games when he starts.
The problem is that Frank just wants transition, transition, transition. Before anyone even thinks of passing to Xavi between the lines, they’ve hoofed it direct down the flanks. Very hard to control rhythm and connect people when you never get touches.
He probably needs to start doing Maddison things and coming deep to get the ball in the build up.

As bad as we are, the best we’ve looked is when he’s been involved.
If Franks stays then there’s definitely a chance he doesn’t work out though
He's been here 4 or 5 months and played over 20 games...small sample, sure, but one can still spot a few things and have reservations, if not concerns.

Fair point. But even with a more adventurous manager, I think his flaws will remain an issue for a while longer. Best hope is that we put 2 or 3 elite players around him to help make up for his shortcomings.
