He was exceptional second half but needs to get consistency.

Even in that first half he had that moment where he showed strength and trickery to create the goal for Muani which was ruled offside.
Plus on a number of occasions he created space for himself but his teammates were unable to make simple passes to him and he rightly got frustrated
Second half he was very good along with the exceptional Palhinha.
I never had doubts about Simons, he clearly needed time to adjust to the pace of the PL

He’s needs players who’ll link with him and play quickly. When Tel and Odobert went off you could see a drop off. I’d love to see him with Maddison. He draws fouls like Madders and he glides around. In the first half he was finding great areas but we were t finding him. In that second half we did and when we got him on it we came to life.

He was really something to watch with the shackles off.
The physicality wasn’t an issue at all last night, he thrived in the pace and aggression. First half Bogarde put one on him with a bad challenge in the air. He got straight back up and put the boot into Cash. They left him alone after that.
We need to see it regularly but that was the coming out party for Simon’s in English football imo. Even more than Brentford because they were so shit that day but Villa were on it last night.

Partly yes, but I think we do every little in possession work in terms of building understanding of habits/tendencies and combinations through the pitch. Our players often look like strangers.
It’s been Porro x Kudus and Inshallah for the most part.
I was just thinking the same , players could get away with hacking at Maddison all game as the ref would let them and he would never give anything back , Xavi will give it back.

That's 20x more dangerous than the Xavi red.
The fact that VAR decided to correct the official on one and not the other, when they have the benefit of time and replays, is damning.
Either they haven't really got any kind of agreement on how to interpret the laws (which is a shambles amd they need gut the PGMOL and start again), or they are intentionally choosing when and how they want to interpret it and who they want to do that for or against (which is corruption and they need to gut the PGMOL and start again).

Freeze the frame at 2 seconds. Both knees off the ground, full speed into his shin and a follow through after. That IMO is reckless and endangers the player. He can break his leg very easily.
