Proven he can play against German sides and lesser European sides.

His long term test is whether can he do it in the EPL (although that currently applies to 95% of the squad).
Hampered by having very average strikers in front of him and a squad who have zero confidence. Add to that a manager who likes to hoof it and it’s not been an easy start .
He is quality, if we get things right he will be terrific , if we don’t he will end up being terrific elsewhere is my view

Let’s hope so.

He’s turned it on against the European sides when he has time and space, but other than one half against Villa hasn’t really done it against a prem side.

Hopefully that will come.

I think there's something to be said for set up too

Frank, by and large, leaves our attacking players solo - unsupported and expected to do it alone

Xavi isn't that player

Give him runners, people getting him the ball in good spaces, people to play with/off of and he comes alive...

Brighton, Brentford, Villa…

He’s adjusting to a new league and scavenging off a system that almost never gives him touches in the final 3rd with players around him to connect with.

Last night he was outstanding because he always had options moving off him and if he didn’t he came deep to pick it up and spray passes. Maddison used to do that. Until now Frank had been using him to stay isolated up the pitch and occupy defenders.

I get what you’re saying, but I still think the difference is the time and space he was afforded.

Last night shows he has the talent under the right circumstances.

Time and space is part of it but he’s technical enough to adapt to time and space.

Especially when he has options. Look at the link up play and 1-2’s. All in tight spaces with no time, or because he’s dropped deep to have time to ping passes

Tight spaces yep, but they are tracking but standing off him rather than putting in a heavy tackle which is more than likely what would happen in the PL.

He's performing more consistently and at a higher level than either Eriksen or Modric at the same stage of their Spurs careers. Will he reach their peaks? Who knows but he's definitely not going die wondering, Gives his all.

Some Spurs fans are fucking idiots who wouldn't know a talented footballer if they were two-footed in the nuts by one. :D

Absolutely this. I'm still astounded that people can watch a performance like that and still criticise it in terms of the opposition/ not doing it in the prem etc. We are having a season of dire moments, and we have a player capable of doing the things that delight and enthral - yet we're not willing to enjoy them or give him time to adjust to the demands of the premier league? No wonder we get stick, premium privilege despite a sea of shit, means we can't see the few things that are positive

They would have us being led by a 30 year old shin kicker. Dark times.

Echoing what a lot sad. Very encouraging all around performance

Last night’s setup really suited him well. Allowed him to find pockets of space all over the pitch.
