Make me whole again

It's time for us to head home

That was the anthem of the summer whilst England were making their way to the World Cup semi final in Russia. But right now it’s what every Spurs fan is yearning for. The return home.

To the new stadium and away from Wembley, or Milton Keynes or wherever. It seems to be the thing that is aggravating us all and by “all” I’m not just talking about the fans. And the closer it gets to the new stadium being delivered the greater we feel that part of us is missing.

It was always going to be a challenge having no home stadium for about a year. Mind you it was always going to be a challenge completing the project in that very demanding time scale. But everyone is now just tired and wants to go home. Like getting to the end of a two-week all-inclusive holiday and you’re really starting to tire of the buffet and all you really want is a takeaway from the chick king. We should place a bet on one of the top betting sites and win enough to pay the rest of the stadium costs!

The malaise is deep set. Fans have had enough. I’m sure the players and Pochettino (no matter how many brave faces he puts on) are equally fed up. Everyone just wants to have somewhere to belong to again. Great credit should go to the players and coaching staff though for what they are going through and how they are keeping it together. Especially with so many away games so far this season (Yes I know Wembley is not a home game either but you get my drift). Equally so the fans. It’s been a tough ride.

But we are muddling through now. It’s evident in the team performances so far this season – although it’s unfair to blame all of this on the absence of a home ground. We need to refocus as a team. We need to refocus as a club. And by this I mean all the way to the top. We need a reboot. Control – Alt – Delete.

It feels weird that I am even saying this given that we have equalled our best start to a Premier League season. But the truth is that we just ain’t clicking at the moment. Our heads are being messed with. We’ve lost players for being “homesick” in the past. Yes I am looking at you Richard Gough and Nick Barmby. But now everyone is feeling the homesickness.

We need to go home. And the quicker the better.

As if the tease of the first game being in September wasn’t bad enough, we are awash with official and unofficial pictures and videos of the new stadium filtering in to our social media feeds on a daily basis. Take me home. To the place, where I belong.

We need to plug the gap. We need to make fans and the players belong to something again. We need our comfort blanket. We also need the club ownership to get this stadium project monkey off its back and refocus on what we need to do to take this club to the oft quoted “next level”. To bring the glory nights back to The Lane. And yes, it will always be The Lane. Stuff it.

We can cross this excuse off the list once the stadium has been delivered. Although there will no doubt be a bedding in period until we get comfy in the new furniture and familiar with the décor.

We’ve laughed at the squatters from Arsenal as being nomads. Or the Spammers rocking up in caravans. But isn’t that us right now? Nomadic travellers? If we can ground ourselves and get back to base soon. It will be the remedy that we are looking for. At least in part. I am certain of it. And it will be just the boost we need to push on for the rest of the season. Injuries permitting of course!
