In the last two transfer windows, Tottenham were an exception in the Premier League and didn’t sign any new players. They became the first team in Premier League history that failed to sign a single player during the transfer window last summer.

This could be because of an investment in a new stadium or Mauricio Pochettino could be genuinely satisfied with the quality of the current squad. One thing that we know for sure, Spurs have kept the team as it is for two transfer windows in a row.

Now that the construction of the new stadium is completed and a few key players have left, they may finally decide to strengthen the team this summer. So, the question arises as to which players are potentially coming to London this summer?

Tottenham could use an extra creative midfielder after Mousa Dembele left Spurs for the Chinese team Guangzhou in January and Christian Eriksen is likely to be joining Real Madrid this summer. A name that is being mentioned often, to potentially strengthen the midfield, is Aston Villa player Jack Grealish. A transfer to London was in the making during the summer of 2018 but ultimately failed to materialise. Grealish has admitted having been disappointed that the deal fell through, which makes it likely the transfer will finally happen this summer.

Despite scoring only four goals and making four assists, Grealish has performed well for Aston Villa this season, even managing to catch the eye of England’s manager, Gareth Southgate. The English attacking midfielder, of Irish descent, will move to a Premier League team during the next transfer window and it’s almost certain his new home will be London. His first cap for the Three Lions is expected to follow shortly after. He could then potentially win Euros 2020 in his first international year, as England is one of the five favorites to lift the cup in the final at Wembley in London.

Gareth Bale has been criticised for reportedly refusing to socialise with his team-mates and his unwillingness to learn the Spanish language. The Welshman has not been certain of his place in the starting 11 and, already being 29 years old, speculation is mounting that his time in Madrid could come to an end this summer.

Many Tottenham fans are dreaming of a return for former Spurs player Bale. The Real Madrid winger is reportedly open to move back to his old club and according to Spanish newspaper Marca, Los Blancos are willing to sell Bale in order to finance other transfer deals in the next transfer window. If Christian Eriksen is going in the opposite direction, Spurs have a higher chance of signing Gareth Bale than their premier league rivals, Manchester United.

Adrien Rabiot looks certain to leave PSG in the summer when his contract runs out. The 23-year-old midfielder refused to sign a new contract in December, indicating he is leaving the French capital. Barcelona seemed to be the biggest contender to sign one of the most interesting free transfers this summer but the Catalans are now eyeing Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong.

Mauricio Pocchettino is looking to strengthen Tottenham’s midfield and has publicly declared his interest in the Frenchman. Rabiot, who made his international debut on 15th November 2016 against Ivory Coast, would certainly be a great addition to the Tottenham squad and could potentially fill the void Dembele left after his departure.

However in early 2019, a move to London became less plausible after the French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Rabiot had officially rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, this leaves Bayern Munich and Liverpool, who have both expressed their interest in signing the French midfielder, the leading candidates.
