We have been quite the laughing stock in the last two transfer windows after stunning the world of football by making absolute zero signings. Nonetheless, we managed to hold into top 6 and we are heading into the last 8 of Champions League in style. If it is true that we did not make any signings, it is also quite impressive that we manage to hold our stars, locking them away from tempting moves abroad or – worse – to one of the wealthier rivals.

Still, if we aim to conquer some silverware next season, to put into the brand-new stadium cabinet, we need two things. First, Pochettino must stay, since he is the one who has been built this team from scratch, making it competitive again after several years of mediocrity. We owe him and thus the five year contract renewal we did with the Argentinian next year was a great achievement, considering the harassment of teams like Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan.

So, considering that Pochettino stays, it is fair that Levy finally gives him the signings he asks for. Even teams like Everton and Wolves are splashing the cash and if Tottenham wants to keep competitive and battle with the top 6 for another season, they will need to make some intelligent signings. Here are some suggestions, all which would be within a total of a $80 limit budget.

1 – Wan-Bissaka – £22.50m

Possible one of the positions where Spurs most need to sign someone is for the rightback position. Even since Kyle Walker departed, two seasons ago, we haven’t found a proper replacement to fill his boots. Aurier is inconsistent and so is Trippier. The England international had a stellar World Cup in Russia, but he has suffered from a groin injury and still seems to be recovering his form. He seemed to have lost his place to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Southgate’s starting XI and now, after losing the position to the young Crystal Palace fullback in the Three Lions, he might be in danger of losing it in Spurs for the same man.

Allegedly, Tottenham are on the hunt for the brilliant 20 year-old man and it is no shame in admitting he would be an upgrade to Aurier and Trippier. According to whoscored, Aaron has a rate of 3.8 tackles per game, 2.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances, better numbers that the ones registered by both Tottenham’s current options. He also registers 1.8 dribbles per game, compared to Aurier’s 1.2 and Trippier 0.4. The Palace man has a market value of £22.50m, but don’t be surprised to see this number rise way high, since apparently Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern are also on his tail. If Spurs manage to secure a top 4 place and Champions League football next season, we might be eager to seduce him.

2 – Bruno Fernandes – £31.50m

Ok, this might be just a personal desire, unlikely to happen, besides on your FIFA Career Mode. Still, if you want to consider an option more for midfield, perhaps to replace Eriksen in case he leaves or to play alongside him, instead of Sissoko, Bruno Fernandes should be your guy. His market value is at £31.50m right now, which would be a bargain considering his current form. It is true that this guy plays in the always overlooked Portuguese league but buying in Portugal has proven profitable for some teams (right Wolves?).

Nonetheless, Bruno has been carrying on his shoulders a very average team of Sporting CP, single handedly turning the semifinal fixture against leaders Benfica in the Portuguese Cup and at the time averaging an astounding amount of 27 goals in the season, a record number for a midfielder, only equaled by Frank Lampard.

Many supporters already urged for Levy to turn its attention on Bruno, before some sneaky Manchester team takes him away. A great free kick taker, with eagerness to strike long range shots, Bruno not only is a vital addition upfront, but he is also a hard worker at the back. He registers 1.7 tackles per game, superior to Sissoko 1.4 and Erikssen 1 and makes 1.2 dribbles per game, a number equal to the Danish, but much superior to the French (0.5). The Portuguese would be a gem that Pochettino would polish to perfection.

3 – Duvan Zapata

Tottenham are allegedly interested in Brazilian winger Douglas Costa and we wouldn’t be mad with that. The Juventus player is fast and incredible dribbling abilities and could break Premier League defenses easily. However, in our bet for the attacking position we take a different gamble: Colombian striker Duvan Zapata. The 28-year-old Atalanta forward is on tremendous form, with 20 goals already scored this season only in 30 games of Serie A.

With an incredible pace and positioning, plus an unlikely physicality for a striker, he would no doubt be an upgrade to Llorente, maybe being able to replace Harry Kane when is necessary and play alongside him in moments of urging. His price tag isn’t very cheap though, setting on around £31.50m, but maybe the prospect of playing in Premier League and, hopefully, UCL next season would be enough to attract the forward for a lower price. Plus, the Colombian bond with fellow Spurs man Davinson Sanchez could help to make the deal a reality. West Ham surprisingly seem to be leading the race for Zapata, with Inter also on the run, but Tottenham should try to bid for him as he would be a good addition into Pochettino’s system.
