One frenzied Match: Tottenham vs Aston Villa
With his last goal, while sprinting in injury time, Son Heung-min condemned Aston Villa in the game on 16th February.
Read on to know all about this amazingly chaotic game, which comprised of own goals, a streak of saves, equalisers and a historical sprint.
Son was undoubtedly the hero of the match with two goals to his name, and there are no doubts of him being a favourite for bettors in the next game as well.
The last strike of Son against Aston Villa was the 41st shot of the game. That shot helped Tottenham gain a win, which was quite difficult as Pepe Reina was acing in repeating the feat of his hat-trick of saves from the South Korean.
Those saves must have frustrated Mourinho as it may have refreshed his memories of Champions League semi-final held 13 years ago, where there was a hat-trick of saves against them.
Yet, if someone has to summarise the game, the defenders of both teams will take the throne. Defenders of both sides, Toby Alderweireld and Bjorn Engels, cost their team a goal by scoring themselves and were then guilty for another concession.
Engel’s case was quite horrible. He literally let the ball run under his foot and Son didn’t lose to take the advantage and sprinted to score his second of the game.
Although they began poorly for Tottenham, Son with this game has become the 6th player to bring up a half-century of Premier League goals for Spurs.
Initially, the game was led by Villa, but then it amounted to hesitant and hapless defending.
Alderweireld was clearly caught in two minds; he didn’t attack Anwar El Ghazi’s cross as he knew that Mbwana Samatta was present just behind him. However, he only succeeded in prodding the ball past a similarly timid Hugo Lloris.
Villa’s game can be explained as follows:
The lead that they took in the game could have been extended. Jack Grealish, who is one of the most excellent players in the team, almost scored twice for himself. Samatta, on the other hand, headed wide and turned the tables around for Tottenham.
The game also displayed an apt usage of technology, i.e. VAR review. It played to be Tottenham’s best assistant in the game, as it helped them with a penalty kick. Although Pepe Reina successfully saved Son’s unconvincing spot-kick, the rebound was successfully converted to a goal.
The game helped Alderweireld gain his respect back from the fans and team players by scoring an equalizer for his own goal. Engels successfully converted Grealish’s corner, but almost inevitably it was Alderweireld who beat in the air and scored the first for his team.
Son Heung-in scored the next two goals for Tottenham.
Although after both the teams were at 2-2, Reina began his string of saves to prevent further goals. But it was Son, who took the chance to score a goal and delivered victory to Mourinho with a scoreline he has rarely experienced; a winning with 3:2.
