2020 was the year when fans of sports events were stuck at home, unable to attend their favourite sports venues in the different seasons. Revenues have also plummeted in the pandemic-stricken 2020. However, trends in professional sports show that top franchises in the world have held onto their values, many being of higher value in 2021 as they emerged holding their positions through 2020. On the upside, Vulkan Vegas casino has been part of the industry that has flourished in 2020, the year when online and virtual sports and gaming have been on the rise. It is one of the favourite gambling sites for Canadian players, giving them ease and convenience to transact with local currencies. The main highlights of the site include instant play features and ease of gaming on mobile devices. The site also includes a large variety of casino games such as live dealer games, slots, video poker and others.

Sports Leagues That Made It Big in 2020

  • Dallas Cowboys of NFL. If we look at the world of physical sports and how they did in 2020, Dallas Cowboys retained the top position as the most valuable team in American football. They remain at the current valuation of USD 5.5 billion. Since the NFL dominates the list, it is no surprise that the Cowboys retain their position. Hence, for them, revenue continues to flow.
  • New York Yankees of MLB. This is the number two team in terms of valuation that held onto their position in 2020. This team of Major League Baseball is known to have achieved near-record profits over the years. Hence, it is not surprising that their value is close to that of the NFL Dallas Cowboys, being slightly lower than the NFL team and valued at USD 5 billion.
  • NBA Teams Hold Third, Fourth and Fifth Positions. The three mainstream American sports hold leading positions across the globe when it comes to success, profits and valuation. Hence, after the NFL and MLB, you would expect NBA teams to take over. As you guessed, the New York Knicks of the NBA comes to a close third position, being valued at USD 4.6 billion. Close to them are other NBA teams, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. Hence, even though international football also takes much attention, an overall number of teams that are highly rated in the sports world come from these three American sports associations.
  • International Football Takes Centre Stage. Close on the heels of American football is European or international football. Here Real Madrid holds a leading position, a status that they retained even in 2020. Even in the pandemic-stricken year, Real Madrid netted a valuation of about 4.4 billion USD. Close on their heels is Barcelona. With Messi on their team, they have become the richest football team many times. In valuation, they rose to USD 4.02 billion last year. Another team that has also been reaping the rewards in 2020 is Manchester United. Also known as the Red Devils, they are valued at USD 3.8 billion in 2020.
  • Other High-Value Sports. Besides the above teams, many other sports professionals held the limelight in 2020. For instance, in terms of payment, the highest-paid athlete was Roger Federer, the tennis star. Even in the pandemic year, he secured a total of 103 million in USD in earnings. This was mainly from his tour earnings and impressive sponsorships. In terms of sports team ownership, Steve Ballmer held the spotlight last year. His net worth was around USD 52.7 billion, money that he earned as the owner of the Los Angeles Clipper team and of the different roles he has at Microsoft.
  • Trends in Virtual Sports. Since 2020 was a year when most of the world was stuck at home most of the months, it is not surprising to see how the sports trends picked up. In the year 2019, global revenue topped $1 billion in eSports. Even though several big tournaments were cancelled in 2020, gaming and viewing figures continued to rise in 2020. In terms of revenue won, Dota 2 contributed the highest. Close to it came CS: GO, Rainbow Six Siege and League of Legends. All these contributed to revenues from Twitch streamers and other live streaming channel subscriptions.

Though sports fans were deprived of their usual schedule of outdoor games in 2020, most of the high-ranked global teams have held onto their position even though the pandemic. Surprisingly, the valuation and earnings of these teams did not deplete either. This does show sound valuation strategies and sponsorship campaigns that have held these sports teams on the field and at their global ranks.
